UFC 137 Results: Tyson Griffin Disappoints in Loss to Bart Palaszewski
Tyson Griffin beat Manvel Gamburyan in June to end a three-fight losing streak. A loss on Saturday night to Bart Palaszewski proved he hasn't re-found the form that allowed him to start his career 12-1, though. It was another disappointing performance from Griffin, who got knocked out in the first round.
Griffin was once one of the sport's fastest rising stars. He once had three straight Fight of the Night honors and had wins over Clay Guida and Thiago Tavares to bounce back from his first career loss, which came against Frankie Edgar.
He hasn't been the same since a 2008 loss to Sean Sherk, however.
That fight came at UFC 90 and was the Fight of the Night. Griffin came up on the losing end of a unanimous decision. Including that bout, he has lost five of his last eight fights, including two first-round knockouts.
The 28-year-old Palaszewski was making his UFC debut and made quick work of Griffin. He landed a few quick shots that sent Griffin reeling and landed the finishing blow after a couple seconds of furious blows to the head.
Griffin failed to make weight for the fight, weighing in at 149 pounds, and maybe he wishes Palaszewski would have opted out because he made Griffin look like a washed-up veteran instead of somebody who should still be in the prime of his career.
There's no telling what the future holds for Griffin now. There are fighters that continue entering the ring into their late 30s, so time isn't an issue, but the results will need to improve if the American has any plans to revitalize his career.
While all diehard UFC fans have witnessed Griffin's talent, he's running out of time to reach his potential. Hopefully Saturday's loss showed him how much work he'll need to do to become a force once again.
