BCS Rankings Week 10: Projected Standings for the Latest BCS Poll
After Saturday's games this week, the only certainty in Sunday's BCS standings will be the LSU Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide remaining at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.
However, afterward a lot may shake up as Saturday has some big matchups, most notably No. 11 Michigan State (6-1) at No. 14 Nebraska (6-1), as well as No. 9 Oklahoma (6-1) at No. 8 Kansas State (7-0).
No. 4 Boise State is the lone undefeated team with a bye week. The question is whether that ultimately allows No. 5 Clemson to jump ahead of them. This week, Clemson travels to Georgia Tech in an inter-conference ACC matchup that has some major conference title implications.
Elsewhere, No. 3 Oklahoma State plays host to the Baylor Bears and QB Robert Griffin III. This is a dangerous game for the Cowboys, because the Bears are the most explosive offense their defense has seen.
If the Pokes get off to a slow start like they did against Texas A&M, the difference could be too much to overcome.
Perhaps the most important game outside the Top 10 that could significantly affect the elite, is No. 22 Georgia vs. Florida (in Jacksonville). The Bulldogs remain the best hope for Boise State having a solid strength of schedule (SOS).
Heading into Week 10, the Dawgs are tied for first in the SEC East with No. 13 South Carolina, but the Gamecocks have the head-to-head tiebreaker, which brings us to another important game: South Carolina at Tennessee.
It's an unfortunate reality that South Carolina has to play without RB Marcus Lattimore.
That said, the Volunteers played a tough first half in Tuscaloosa, AL last week against the Crimson Tide and are very capable of getting the upset win over the Gamecocks at home.
So with all this being said, we know this much: Saturday is going to be filled with 12 hours of awesome drama and pandemonium. Once the games conclude, Sunday night then becomes the moment of truth.
To that end, here are the BCS projections for Week 10 of the 2011 college football season.
Projected College Football Week 10 BCS Rankings (LW = Last Week's Rank)
1. LSU Tigers (8-0) (LW 1)
Until they get knocked off, the Bayou Bengals are No. 1.
2. Alabama Crimson Tide (8-0) (LW 2)
Right now, the only team who appears to have any shot at defeating LSU.
3. Oklahoma State Cowboys (8-0) (LW 3)
The Pokes control their own destiny. Win out and they're in the national title.
4. Clemson Tigers (9-0) (LW 5)
Clemson could use an Oklahoma State slip-up, but the LSU-'Bama game being a blowout would help.
5. Boise State Broncos (7-0) (LW 4)
Broncos have to hope Georgia at least wins the SEC East to have a strong SOS.
6. Stanford Cardinal (8-0) (LW 6)
Weak SOS could have an undefeated Stanford team feeling like the 2004 Auburn Tigers.
7. Oklahoma Sooners (7-1) (LW 9)
After choking against Texas Tech, the Sooners rebound with a big response win at Kansas State.
8. Oregon Ducks (7-1) (LW 7)
Despite having one loss (LSU), Oregon is still alive for the Pac-12 title and a BCS bid.
9. Arkansas Razorbacks (7-1) (LW 10)
If there's one team that could mess thing whole thing up, it's Arkansas. Can you imagine if they beat LSU in late November?
10. Michigan State Spartans (7-1) (LW 11)
Sparty may be the current Big Ten front-runner, but a rematch with Wisconsin seems imperative.
11. Virginia Tech Hokies (8-1) (LW 12)
Frank Beamer and company are still alive to defend their ACC title. Could they get revenge against Clemson and ultimately ruin the Tigers' season?
12. Wisconsin Badgers (7-1) (LW 15)
Although the Buckeyes weren't ranked, it's never easy winning in The Horseshoe. Sconnie stays alive for a rematch with the Spartans.
13. Kansas State Wildcats (7-1) (LW 8)
The lack of offense hurt against Oklahoma, who simply outscored the Wildcats. Special teams and defense is great, but at some point you must move the ball consistently.
14. Texas A&M Aggies (6-2) (LW 16)
The Aggies' two losses have come against Oklahoma State and Arkansas, both of which are ranked in the Top 10.
15. Houston Cougars (8-0) (LW 17)
Sure they have a weak SOS, but can we really keep a 13-0 Houston team out of the BCS?
16. Michigan Wolverines (7-1) (LW 18)
Yes, the loss to Sparty hurt. But the rebuilding process doesn't happen overnight. Brady Hoke has Big Blue headed back to national prominence.
17. South Carolina Gamecocks (6-2) (LW 13)
The injury to RB Marcus Lattimore was the ultimate deal-breaker for a team struggling with offensive consistency.
18. Penn State Nittany Lions (8-1) (LW 19)
Joe Pa's Nittany Lions may be 8-1, but none of the wins are against a ranked opponent.
19. Nebraska Cornhuskers (6-2) (LW 14)
Both losses come in the conference against ranked schools. Welcome to the Big Ten, Nebraska.
20. Texas Tech Red Raiders (6-2) (LW 20)
The road win over Oklahoma in Norman was impressive. The question is whether the Red Raiders can do the same against Texas and Oklahoma State.
21. Georgia Bulldogs (6-2) (LW 22)
After an 0-2 start, head coach Mark Richt has the Dawgs rolling with the shot at an SEC title appearance.
22. Arizona State Sun Devils (6-2) (LW 21)
Thanks to a weak Pac-12 South and USC being ineligible, the Sun Devils walk into the conference title game.
23. Auburn Tigers (6-3) (LW 23)
Although it's three more losses than Auburn would have liked, 2011 could have been a lot worse without Cam Newton around.
24. Texas Longhorns (5-2) (LW 24)
Texas is slowly rebuilding after a dismal 2010 campaign. 2012 will be more telling as to which direction the Longhorns are headed.
25. Cincinnati Bearcats (6-1) (LW NR)
The lone Big East school to make the list, the Bearcats are looking for a third BCS bid this season.
