Arsenal Transfer Talk: Theo Walcott and 5 Players Who Could Be Gone in January
About two months lie between Arsenal and the January transfer window, and it is possible that more players could leave the Emirates.
The word count is of utmost importance here as we all know that some rumors can be rather ridiculous. But, if Samuel Eto's move to Anzhi Makhachkala says anything, it is that the ridiculous can become real if everyone is somewhat satisfied.
This Arsenal side has steadily improved as the season has progressed, but this weekend's big test against Chelsea will show how far they have come. Whether the team continues to rise up the table or not, there will always be speculation that new blood will arrive, which inevitably means some current players could leave.
Without further ado, here is a list of players that could leave the Emirates in January.
Theo Walcott
1 of 5Other than Robin Van Persie, Arsenal's forward line has not statistically threatened their opposition's defenses too much. Theo Walcott has only contributed three goals in 13 appearances so far this campaign, and while there is a long season ahead, he should still be doing better.
Interestingly enough, he has apparently still caught the eyes of Juventus coach Antonio Conte who, according to Talksport.com, is ready to bid for the player.
Walcott is currently trying to wrap up a contract extension, and only time will tell if the Juventus interest is true.
Denilson
2 of 5There is the possibility of a January exit for Denilson. While there have not been any rumours of late, a number of factors could contribute to his departure.
The midfield is already packed, and will continue to grow with the imminent return of Abou Diaby, meaning Denilson will be even further down the pecking order than he was before.
Denilson was loaned out to his former club, Sao Paulo, to make space for newcomers, which included a loan deal for Yossi Benayoun. Unless Wenger decides that Denilson's presence will be more valuable than Benayoun's, it is unlikely that the Israeli will be sent packing.
Lastly, the young Brazilian hasn't impressed on loan at all. He has not contributed any goals or assists to Sao Paulo and has been red-carded more than once.
He will be more than likely deemed surplus to requirements when the Brazilian season ends. The only issue then will be finding a suitor.
Manuel Almunia
3 of 5Manuel Almunia really should be leaving. He is fourth in the goalkeeper hierarchy at the Emirates and there is no chance of that changing.
He is currently on loan at West Ham, and hoping for a longer stay. However, once the January window comes around, he should be sold as soon as possible—for both his and Arsenal's sake.
Over the summer he was a rumored target for a variety of clubs, and it is possible that those interests will be reignited in the winter.
Marouane Chamakh
4 of 5Marouane Chamakh has very much been a peripheral figure in the club since the middle of last season. There has been speculation in recent weeks that the Moroccan striker will exit the club in January, whether on loan or in a full transfer.
According to InsideFutbol.com, all roads point to a return to Ligue 1 for the current Arsenal striker, although Arsene Wenger has since moved to dispel such rumors.
But, again, anything can happen.
Andrey Arshavin
5 of 5Andrey Arshavin is still getting his fair share of critics for being unable to fully replicate his Euro 2008 displays for the Gunners. Even the player himself has recently admitted that he has not been good enough.
The Guardian reports that a move back to Russia may be in the near future for the Arsenal winger, and if there is any possibility a move could happen, there will surely be more suitors.
Arsene Wenger has been patient with the pint-sized Russian so far, but there is always the possibility something could ("could" being the key word) spark his interest in allowing Arshavin to leave.
