Liverpool FC Transfers: 6 January Targets for Kenny Dalglish
Who will Liverpool sign in January?
Well, if you ask King Kenny, money won't be an object.
Reds' boss Kenny Dalglish recently said he expects to have the backing of Liverpool's owners once the world football transfer window reopens in January.
The way he figures it, Fenway Sports Group (which has already spent £70 million since purchasing the club a year ago) won't hesitate to open the purse this winter. Dalglish, according to FIFA.com, on the upcoming transfer window:
"'We are happy about the strength of the squad we have got.'
'The more players I have to choose from the more difficult my job is, but the better it is for everyone.
'We have a fit squad at the moment but I am sure that won't last too long. There is a window coming up in January and if we feel the need to use it I am sure we will get full support (from the owners).
"
We'll have to wait until January to see if Dalglish is right. Until then, though, we have plenty of time to speculate about who Liverpool will try to sign in January.
Eden Hazard
1 of 6Eden Hazard, Lille's 20-year-old Belgian midfielder, has long been linked to Liverpool.
But since the August transfer window closed, there hasn't been much news.
On Sept. 1, ESPN reported Lille saying Liverpool won't have first dibs on Hazard. That speculation arose after Joe Cole moved from Liverpool to Lille on loan, prompting many to think Hazard would quickly head the other direction.
The same day, SkySports reported something very similar.
More recent reports continue to suggest Hazard will leave Lille, but not until next summer. Liverpool is still in the hunt.
That doesn't mean there won't be a deal in January or later. It just means we don't know what's going on.
Stay tuned.
Marko Marin
2 of 6Marko Martin is a 22-year-old German international who can play anywhere in the midfield.
He currently plays for Werder Bremen of the Bundesliga, but recent reports say he's being monitored by Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
Marin reportedly rejected both clubs back in the summer.
Jan Vertonghen
3 of 6Jan Vertonghen, Ajax's 24-year-old Belgian defender, has been on Liverpool's radar for a few months now.
More recently, another report claimed Arsenal might beat Liverpool to Vertonghen, based on his relationship with Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen.
The saga seems to have legs, so stay tuned for the latest. It could go down to the wire in January.
Jeffrey Schlupp
4 of 6Jeffrey Schlupp, an 18-year-old midfielder and forward of Ghanaian descent, was recently linked with Liverpool (report here).
It's not much, but it's something. The article says Leicester expects an offer in January. In addition to Liverpool, Newcastle and Stoke are said to be interested.
Schlupp is eligible to play internationally for England, Ghana and Germany.
Alex Milosevic
5 of 6That's a picture of Alex Milosevic, a 19-year-old Swedish defender, from the AIK Solna website (good luck, it's in Swedish).
The best I can tell is that he stands 6'3" (191 centimeters) and weighs 180 pounds (82 kilograms). Those stats would work well in Liverpool's defense.
And Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing the defender. But so are Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Werder Bremen. And Milosevic seems keen on a switch to Celtic.
Seyi Ojo
6 of 6Seyi Ojo is a 14-year-old central midfielder with MK Dons. He's being called a sensation, and he's apparently drawing interest from Liverpool, among other clubs.
Liverpool will reportedly face competition from Chelsea, who have been linked with a bid of £2 million.
