WWE Vengeance 2011: The Ring Implodes & The 15 Most Memorable Moments of the PPV

Daniel MasseyOct 23, 2011

WWE Vengeance 2011 is now over and I must say it was one of the best pay-per-view events of the year.

Everything seemed to work tonight, and I was very impressed with this show, especially after the last two pay-per-views we were subjected to.

This will rank rather highly on my impending list of best pay-per-view events of 2011. I have compiled a list of the 15 most memorable moments of the night.

So, for those who missed it, or for those who want to relive it, sit back, relax and enjoy the read!

Kofi Kingston's Monkey Flip

1 of 15

The first match on the card saw Zig Swag take on Air Boom for the WWE tag team championships.

This was an extremely good opening match, but one of the things that stood out, was an unusually enthusiastic monkey flip executed by Kofi Kingston.

Ziggler flipped through the air with more rotation than I have ever seen from this simple manoeuvre and it looked amazing.

With a full rotation, Ziggler landed on his front instead of his back, and it would prove to be an encouraging start for the pay-per-view.

An Enthralling US Title Match

2 of 15

The US title match was an excellent showing, especially considering Dolph Ziggler had already competed in a hard tag-team match moments before.

It was a shame that Zack Ryder did not leave San Antonio with the title, but the match was executed perfectly and had my full attention throughout.

I couldn't believe actually how good it was and Zack Ryder proved that he could be more than just Internet Champion.

I expect to see him in more pay-per-views in the future.

Beth Phoenix Retains the WWE Divas Championship

3 of 15

Beth Phoenix retained the women’s championship in a very entertaining Divas match.

I mean, I actually watched it...all the way through.

It was good.

The Card Order

4 of 15

The card order was absolutely perfect. In order of importance, the matches flowed like they haven’t for months and maybe even years.

This is one reason this pay-per-view was one of the best of the year and therefore is one of the most memorable moments of the night—even though it isn’t strictly a moment...

Awesome Truth Cut a Truthfully Awesome Promo

5 of 15

In all truthfulness, Awesome Truth showed their awesome promo skills in an awesome segment preceding their match.

Truthfully, I have to say that this awesome segment really did show how awesome the tag team of R-Truth and The Miz really are.

Triple H Still Hasn't Shaved His Chest

6 of 15

And he is still a bit hefty...lack of in-ring competition has not been good to the Cerebral Assassin.

He is still an excellent wrestler but his belly is making him look old.

He may end up looking like Dusty Rhodes in a few years.

As long as he doesn’t wear a polka-dot singlet, I will let him off.

He seriously needs to invest in a razor, though.

"WOOO!!!"

7 of 15

The crowd seemed dead for the majority of the night up until Triple H placed The Miz in the Figure Four Leglock.

The crowd seemed to transform into thousands of Ric Flairs as they wooed the roof off the building!

There must have been a lot of Flair fans in the audience.

Lil' Jimmy's Finale

8 of 15

Awesome Truth combined their finishers tonight in one swift movement.

They call it Lil’ Jimmy’s Finale.

It looked fairly good and I believe this truly legitimises them as a serious tag-team and shows they will be instrumental in the revival of the tag-team division.

Nash Returns and Breaks Triple H

9 of 15

One of the bigger stories of the night was Kevin Nash making his return.

He executed Vengeance on his former friend Triple H, by delivering the Jackknife Powerbomb after the match had finished.

The more memorable part of this segment was Kevin Nash seemingly botching this move and Triple H landing on his elbow.

I do hope this does not have a significant impact on the King of Kings, as it is clear he is set to work a program with Nash, judging from tonight’s events.

Cody Rhodes Flies, Eat Your Heart out Evan Bourne

10 of 15

Cody Rhodes nearly hit his legs on the rafters of the arena when he attempted a Moonsault on Randy Orton.

He came back down to earth with an almighty thud as Orton moved out of the way of the uncharacteristic, high-flying Cody Rhodes.

He put Evan Bourne to shame with this move.

The Ring Implodes After a Superplex

11 of 15

The title match was a lot better than people were willing to give it credit for.

It was entertaining and truly felt like a battle of the Titans. The match ended in a no contest when the two huge Goliaths attempted a Superplex.

The ring imploded and Big Show was carted off on the back of a truck, while Henry stumbled like a drunken man towards the backstage area.

Funny how the same corner of the ring broke as when Brock Lesnar Superplexed Big Show all those years ago.

This was totally unexpected and added to the unpredictability of the event.

The Show Must Go On!

12 of 15

What added further intrigue to the aforementioned point is how Cena and Del Rio would compete in these conditions.

Our questions were soon answered as John Laurinaitis came out and told everyone the match would continue as planned.

And it did!

Del Rio and Cena competed in the ring for ages before the action continued in the back.

Who needs ropes, eh?

John Cena Debuts a New T-Shirt!

13 of 15

Rise above hate.

The juxtaposition between Cena’s new threads and the audience member’s T-shirt; “We hate Cena,”caused an entertaining segment where the man beamed at the wrestler he supposedly hates.

Cena did not look pleased.

Be a STAR, audience member!

Del Rio Attempts to Murder Cena and Vice-Versa

14 of 15

WWE really likes to campaign against bullying and violence, then shows Del Rio doing everything he can to murder John Cena.

I don’t get it.

Nevertheless, the match took a violent turn as it headed to the back and Del Rio buried Cena under some Vengeance props after Cena tried to crush Del Rio under some heavy-duty cases.

It’s all fun and games, kids!

Awesome Truth Cost Cena an 11th Reign as WWE Champion

15 of 15

In the last memorable moment of Vengeance, Awesome Truth ambushed Cena, delivered their finishers and left him for the count in the ring.

Cena managed to get up at the count of nine, but Del Rio shoved him back down for a ten count with a title shot to the head.

Had Awesome Truth not interfered, Cena would be 11-time Champion. I guess we can thank John Laurinaitis for something.
