Week 7 Fantasy Football: Steven Jackson and 3 RBs You Must Bench

Matt FaulconerOct 20, 2011

Heading to Dallas to take on the Cowboys is going to be disastrous for St. Louis Rams RB Steven Jackson.

Jackson was injured in the first game of the season, which obviously didn't excite fantasy owners. If that was't enough, his performance against the Cowboys this week is going to make them even more frustrated.

The Cowboys are giving up less than 70 yards per game on the ground, and are the third best fantasy defense against opposing RBs. If that doesn't worry you, Jackson's numbers should. He is yet to top 100 yards rushing in a single game this season, and has only topped 60 yards once.

To make matters worse, Rams QB Sam Bradford is injured, which means the Cowboys will likely focus more on stopping the run than usual. It's unlikely that Bradford, who has a high ankle sprain, is going to be able to put this game on his shoulders. You may think that more carries is going to be a good thing for Jackson, but with eight Cowboys in the box, it won't matter how many carries he gets in this game.

Jackson should be on your bench this week. If you're looking for a waiver wire player to play ahead of him, both Jackie Battle and DeMarco Murray have favorable matchups this week and should be inserted ahead of Jackson.

Fantasy football is a game of "what have you done for me lately," and Jackson has done nothing in the past few weeks.

You would be very wise to leave Jackson on your bench for this one.

Delone Carter (RB, Indianapolis Colts)

According to ESPN's John Clayton, Joseph Addai has still not returned to practice. However, that doesn't immediately make Carter a fantasy option.

He was a hot sleeper pick before the season, and fantasy owners rushed to grab him when Addai went down with an injury. You shouldn't be quick to put him in your lineup, though. He has done very little to warrant any sort of fantasy consideration, as he has tallied just 3.1 yards per carry so far this season.

Last week, he ran for just 45 yards on 14 carries in his first start, and picked up just 22 yards on 12 carries in relief of Addai in Week 5.

He only had one touchdown in those games, and the sledding is going to be tough this week against the New Orleans Saints. Expect the Saints to get out to a big lead in this one, which will force the Colts to abandon the run game quite early.

Carter likely won't get many touches on Sunday, and is going to bust.

He doesn't warrant any fantasy consideration now or in the long run, and should not be in a single fantasy lineup this week.

James Starks (RB, Green Bay Packers)

James Starks has been a decent flex play option all season at best, but this game won't end well for the Green Bay Packers running back.

The Packers face the Minnesota Vikings this week in what will be a very difficult matchup for Starks and fellow RB Ryan Grant.

If there is one thing the Vikings do well it is stopping the run. They are giving up less than 85 yards per game, good for fifth best in the NFL.

Starks has been getting enough touches to be successful, but has yet to pick up his production to the point where he should be considered a fantasy starter. He has not topped 50 yards rushing in the past two weeks, and has yet to get in the end zone all season.

That touchdown won't come this week, and Starks better be left on your bench if you are hoping for any fantasy success.
