NFL Picks Week 7: Tim Tebow Will Carry Denver Broncos to Victory vs. Dolphins

Adam WellsOct 19, 2011

The moment that Denver Broncos fans have been asking for all season will finally happen this Sunday, when Tim Tebow makes his first start against the Miami Dolphins. It will be an emotional day for Tebow, and he will use it to carry his team to victory.

In case you haven't heard, the Dolphins are planning a reunion of the 2008 Florida Gators National Championship team for this game. They have essentially turned this into a home game for the Broncos quarterback, who is going to get the loudest ovation of any player in South Beach since Dan Marino retired.

Don't get me wrong, Tebow isn't a franchise savior. The Broncos aren't going to go on a seven-game winning streak just because he is playing quarterback. However, the team will rally around him in this game and they have enough playmakers to contain the Dolphins.

This game will not be easy on the eyes, by any means. The Broncos are still a mess, and they just traded their best receiver to the St. Louis Rams. Their running game ranks 22nd in the NFL and their defense ranks 31st in points allowed.

Similarly, the Dolphins are not exactly lighting the world on fire. They rank 30th in points scored, 26th in total defense and 27th in points allowed.

Let's face it, this game is going to be all about Tebow. No one cares what anyone else does, we just want to know how he is going to perform now that he has been given the keys to the car.

Two weeks ago, fans were given their first taste of Tebow against San Diego. While he didn't have great numbers overall, the team did play better when he was put into the game.

The 24-year-old went 4-for-10 with 79 yards passing, 37 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

Those are the kind of numbers that I would expect from him in this game. His accuracy will not be great and he will look to run the ball more than he should. However, when all is said and done, he will lead the team to victory.

It will probably be the only win that the Broncos have for a while—they play Detroit, Oakland, Kansas City, New York and San Diego after this week—so they need to find something they can build on for that rough stretch of games.

Denver is just a better team, which says a lot more about Miami than it does about them.

Broncos 27, Dolphins 17.
