WWE: Has the Triple H Conspiracy on Monday Night Raw Fizzled Out?

Tom ClarkOct 19, 2011

It was really beginning to get interesting.

For several weeks now, the idea of a conspiracy on Monday Night Raw has been alluded to, confirming fans’ belief that a sinister figure was working behind the scenes.

The moment CM Punk said it on the air, he made the notion a reality; and from that point on it was the talk of the program.

When Triple H received the no confidence vote as Chief Operating Officer, the conspiracy was referenced again, this time by Jerry Lawler. The wheels had obviously been set into motion, all that remained now was the execution.

But is it really coming? More importantly, does anyone really care?

For me, the second that Hunter was relieved of his duties on Raw but remained the COO, the drama was over.

After all, if the entire conspiracy was to get even with Triple H, to punish him for taking over from Vince McMahon, or for whatever reason, then should he not have lost his position entirely? And should any move of that sort have even happened this early?

At times, it feels as though the storyline is rushed. Instead of a new layer being added to the drama every week, we seem to keep getting one “pivotal” moment after another, all in an effort to make us want to become truly involved in what we’re watching.

But is it working?

Kevin Nash comes in, supposedly because he has a beef with CM Punk, then does everything he can to undermine Triple H, the man who is his best friend. The only way this makes sense, is if his marching orders are being fed to him by an evil genius lurking in the shadows.

But that was not the case.

Hunter fires The Miz and R-Truth, two guys whose actions at Night of Champions seem as if they could be directed by someone else, especially considering their open criticism of Triple H. Then, after being rehired by John Laurinaitis, common sense suggests that the truth about who was the mastermind running the conspiracy will come out.

But it didn’t. Both Miz and Truth are once again WWE employees, and it’s back to business as usual.

And while all of this is happening, from the first sign that there may be a conspiracy at work, all the way until right now, there has been one constant. One familiar scene that keeps repeating, over and over again, every week, seemingly without fail.

John Laurinaitis is sending text messages to someone.

There he is, as plain as day, right in front of the camera, with no attempt to hide at, using his cell phone to send texts to an unknown person.

Who’s on the other end? Who cares?

Honestly, after all the speculation concerning who may or may not be the one behind the conspiracy, what difference does it even make anymore?

If the object were to take Hunter out, to humiliate him, then not only should he have lost the position of COO, he should have been the one escorted out of the building.

At this point, I am not entirely sure if the conspiracy theory is even still valid. If WWE wanted to keep the idea alive, then why is the fact that Laurinaitis is always texting, never mentioned on the air by Michael Cole, or any of the other commentators at ringside?

And, if John is the man behind it, then why was named the interim Raw General Manager, and not given the job full-time? Even though he is Executive Vice President of Talent Relations, also being the Raw GM would be yet another way to stick it to Triple H, the man he replaced.

I’m not saying that it’s an impossible situation, WWE creative has done more with a lot less. But for me the whole angle is somewhat of a mess, and until there is an obvious definite direction, it’s almost as though they’re just making it up as they go along.

Conspiracy, no conspiracy, whatever the plan is, I only want WWE to choose an angle and stick with it. It’s still interesting, I just want it to stay that way.
