NFL Picks Week 7: Dallas Cowboys and More Locks to Bounce Back from Tough Losses

Michael DixonOct 18, 2011

Over the course of an NFL season, a couple of tough weeks are certainly going to come the way of any team. Maybe it was a blowout, maybe they lost to a team that they should have easily beaten or maybe they just couldn't hang on against a good team.

Whatever the reasons, losses happen. That's not the end of the world. What is important is for these losses to not turn into losing streaks. If they already are losing streaks, then they need to end.

These teams all dropped their games on Sunday. Still, the situation is right for them to even the score with a big win this weekend.

New Orleans Saints

The Colts seem to climbing out of the doldrums of the NFL. They haven't won yet, but are at least competitive in their losses.

At the beginning of the season, this had potential to be a tremendous game. It's a Super Bowl XLIV rematch and a showdown of two of the best quarterbacks in the game. One is a lock for Canton, the other is headed that way.

But the lock for Canton, Peyton Manning, will not be playing. Without him, the Colts haven't won a single game.

When you're 0-6, you can never be picked to win. When you're playing a team like the Saints in New Orleans, you're a lock to be 0-7.

Dallas Cowboys

It's hard to get a true feel for the Cowboys. They are 2-3. They could easily be 5-0, 0-5 or anything in between. Every loss could have been won, and every win could have been lost. Considering that, 2-3 is about right.

Like the Saints, they are playing a winless team in the Rams. St. Louis has just been brutalized by a really tough early season schedule. The Cowboys may be a slight break from that, but nowhere near big enough.

The Cowboys are now in desperation mode. In Dallas, this one has blowout written all over it.

Detroit Lions

Clearly, the Falcons aren't a bad team. We know that they were 13-3 last season and just had a very nice win against a dangerous Panthers team on Sunday.

But the Lions are breathing fire after Sunday's loss to the 49ers. The loss was bad enough. But, while hilarious, the postgame drama involving Jim Schwartz isn't going to make this team lose focus.

Matthew Stafford will find Calvin Johnson early and often. The Lions' pass rush will attack Matt Ryan. Michael Turner will have a nice day, but it won't be nearly enough.
