Why Giving Michael McGillicutty the Hennig Name Would Make Him a World Champ
Michael McGillicutty may just have the hardest name to spell in all of pro wrestling. People usually have to Google him to spell it correctly and right now it may be the most memorable thing about him.
Other than his name McGillicutty is best known as being a former member of the Nexus under Wade Barrett and then CM Punk. He has also teamed up with fellow former Nexus member David Otunga and even won the tag team world titles with him.
With all of these platforms McGillicutty has still fallen short of being a superstar. It seems shocking considering that he has a great look, charisma, and wrestling ability.

The problem comes down to his name.
McGillicutty's name works against him as it stands just by being difficult to spell and search for. Fans love simplicity. Look at most of the top superstars. Cena, Punk, Triple H, Undertaker and Orton.
All of their names are easy to spell and fans can search the internet for them without having to wonder if they'll misspell it.
And can you imagine an arena chanting McGillicutty? It wouldn't work.
His worst problem comes from for him not being able to use his real name, which ironically fans would already remember.
Because Michael McGillicutty's real name is Joe Hennig, son of Curt Hennig who was also known as "Mr. Perfect."
Whether it was the WWE or McGillicutty who chose to not use his real name when he debuted on NXT and then RAW, a mistake was made.
Hennig is a much easier name to remember and already has the legacy of his father attached to it.
Curt Hennig was a massive star in the WWE with some fans thinking that he should have held the title before he left. With his father's last name, McGillicutty could have already claimed a minor title and become a mid-card talent.
The character could have also been filled out better and it still can.
Instead of being a random heel McGillicutty can be a heel who has struggled with being the son of "Mr. Perfect" to the point of changing his name just to get away from the comparisons. Plenty of young men, especially the sons of athletes, have fallen beneath their father's shadow at one point in their life. McGillicutty could be a great example.
McGillicutty could struggle to face the gap between him and his father who was deemed as one of the greats who had competed. It could be used to have McGillicutty cheat to win his matches because of the pressure he feels is on him.
He could even have former older wrestlers come up to him and mention how great his father was and how they'll be watching him closely.
Having McGillicutty struggle with these demons and the burden of his name would give the fans a character to support as empathize with whether he is heel or face.
It could even lead to him trying to become the world champion, something his father never did. Instead of just wanting the belt to prove that he is the best in the world, it could be the thing that gives him his own legacy.
Throwing himself into the title picture he could strive to get the belt and show the world that he is not his father's son, but his own man.
He still has a chance to do it too. With his name, talent, and built-in story he could be a future champion.
The only thing he needs to do is get rid of his troublesome ring name and he would be "perfect."
