Dolphins vs Jets: Daniel Thomas and 5 Best Fantasy Playmakers in MNF Clash

Michael MillOct 17, 2011

Tonight's Monday Night Football match-up between the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets may not be the most anticipated game in recent history, but it will consist of some exciting match-ups to keep an eye on.

Some of these could actually have a big impact in the fantasy football world.

There are some players who are poised for big games tonight.

Here are the five best playmakers on the field for tonight's Monday Night Football showdown.

5. Santonio Holmes

1 of 5

Earlier this week there was some controversy swirling in the New York area when Santonio Holmes made comments regarding the offensive line and the protection they were giving Mark Sanchez.

Nothing really spiraled out of control, luckily for Holmes.

The team will actually likely do as Holmes suggested tonight. I wouldn't be surprised to see receivers running shorter routes to help with the pressure that Sanchez has received.

That should mean a higher amount of receptions for Holmes. We also know that he can turn any of those short catches into a touchdown.

4. Mark Sanchez

2 of 5

When Mark Sanchez entered the league in 2009, I was one of the few people who believed he had what it took to be an NFL quarterback.

Now that people are starting to jump on the bandwagon, I'm beginning to lose faith.

Despite this, it could be a huge game for Sanchez tonight. The Jets have struggled running the ball and have relied heavily on the young quarterback to carry the offense.

He shouldn't have too many problems doing that tonight against the 31st-ranked pass defense in the league.

3. Cameron Wake

3 of 5

Santonio Holmes wasn't completely right about the Jets offensive line. They haven't really done that poor of a job protecting Mark Sanchez this year.

That said, I still expect the Dolphins to get pressure once in a while on the young quarterback.

Primarily, I expect Cameron Wake to be active in the backfield.

The Dolphins haven't gotten much pressure this season. They only have six sacks through four games.

Cameron Wake has accounted for three of them.

If you are in a league with defensive personnel, Wake may be good for a sack or two tonight.

2. Dustin Keller

4 of 5

After starting off the season hot, Dustin Keller has been shut down in the last two games for just three catches totaling 19 yards.

That trend shouldn't continue this week. I would expect a performance something similar to his first three weeks.

Actually, this could be his biggest game this year. As stated before, the Dolphins have the 31st-ranked passing defense in the league.

Keller, despite the last two games, still leads the team in receptions and yards. He is Sanchez's favorite target.

100 yards and at least one touchdown is very likely tonight.

1. Daniel Thomas

5 of 5

Daniel Thomas has struggled early in his career with injuries. He has appeared in just two of the Dolphins' first four games.

When active, he has been one of the best rookie performers this season.

In his two games, he has 41 rushes for 202 yards. He has yet to rush for a touchdown but does have one receiving.

This isn't the same New York Jets rushing defense that it has been in recent history. They are 28th in the league allowing 134.8 rushing yards per game.

Thomas could have another 100-yard game in his third game. I wouldn't doubt if he gets his first rushing touchdown as well.
