Chael Sonnen vs. Anderson Silva and 5 Loser-Leaves-Town Fights to Book

Vince CareyOct 15, 2011

After UFC 136 ended last weekend, it was almost as if Frankie Edgar and Jose Aldo didn’t exist because MMA fans were all having the same conversation.

How crazy is Chael Sonnen?

Sonnen straight verbally assaulted Anderson Silva after his fight, calling him out for Super Bowl weekend and basically creating a WWE style "Loser Leaves Town" fight, which means if Silva wins then Sonnen will leave the UFC.

But if Sonnen wins, his arch nemesis will have to leave the middleweight division forever, giving Uncle Chael full control over the division.

While it is doubtful that Dana White actually lets this happen, the whole "Loser Leaves Town" concept is a fun one, and it raises an obvious question.

What are the best "Loser Leaves Town" fights the UFC could create?

Chael Sonnen vs. Anderson Silva

1 of 5

Let’s get the obvious out of the way.

These two might hate each other in a Batman-Joker type of way at this point, and it’s making the MMA universe explode in debate.

Some say that Sonnen just has the champion’s number and got unlucky the first fight.

Others say that Silva was injured and that even a Sonnen with elevated testosterone levels couldn’t beat "The Spider."

Ultimately it doesn’t matter, because these two are going to fight again and the world will finally (hopefully) get some sort of answer.

Nick Diaz vs. Mayhem Miller

2 of 5

These two have been going at it in the media for a while now, and while it has calmed down since they both entered the UFC, it won’t take much to get the trash talk going again.

The beef between them began back at Strikeforce: Nashville, when both participated in the infamous brawl that took place after the main event, which ironically featured neither fighter.

We’ve since been treated to endless "Don’t be scared, homie" jokes and dozens of attempts to get these two to fight.

Hopefully Dana White and Joe Silva find a way to make it happen.

Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir

3 of 5

Ever since Mir defeated Lesnar in his UFC debut back at UFC 81, these two have had a strong dislike for one another.

While the feud was supposed to be settled at UFC 100, Lesnar’s win did nothing to silence Mir, who has stated he would like to eventually get a rubber match between the two.

A loss for either fighter would put them pretty far out of the UFC title picture, which would be a decent reason for the loser to retire anyway, so this one would make sense on all levels.

Dominick Cruz vs. Urijah Faber

4 of 5

Another set of fighters who are in desperate need of a rubber match to settle their feud, Urijah Faber and Dominick Cruz just don’t seem to get along.

It started back at WEC 26, where the promotional poster for the event didn’t feature Cruz, even though he has fighting Faber for the featherweight title.

Cruz responded by signing over Faber’s face whenever a fan asked him to sign the poster, which led to some bad blood between the two.

It escalated when they fought for the bantamweight title at UFC 132, and it doesn’t seem like they patched anything up after the fight.

Dana White vs. Tito Ortiz

5 of 5

This would break every single PPV record in history, but it is also so ridiculous that I almost feel bad for bringing it up.

Dana White and Tito Ortiz have had some intense moments over the years, going back to when White left his position as Tito’s manager to take over the UFC.

Ever since, the two have had an on again, off again relationship that would make the writers of Friends blush, but it has been hostile far more often than it has been pleasant.

Recently the two have been more sociable with each other, but it shouldn't take much to set them off again, and if it happens, then they should definitely book this one.

I’m sure Dana would go for it, right?
