Week 6 Fantasy Football Projections: Sam Bradford and Sleeper QBs Worth a Start

Mike ChiariOct 15, 2011

While there aren't a ton of great fantasy quarterbacks on the bye this week save for San Diego's Philip Rivers, there are certainly many fantasy owners out there looking for a little bye week relief. With that said, there are plenty of mid-tier quarterbacks with intriguing matchups in Week 6.

None of these signal callers will likely put up monster numbers like Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady, but all of them will do enough to help you compete in the face of byes or injuries.

Here are three under-the-radar quarterbacks that are worth a start this weekend.

Mark Sanchez - New York Jets

Save for a miserable Week 4 performance against the Baltimore Ravens, New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez has actually played pretty well from a fantasy perspective. He has thrown for two touchdowns in every other game, and he also has two 300-yard games to boot.

Head coach Rex Ryan has said that the Jets will have a renewed commitment to the running game, but the temptation to pass will be too great against the Miami Dolphins on Monday night. The Dolphins have been torched by the pass so far this season and Sanchez will want to take advantage. Sanchez should be able to move the ball fairly easily through the air and rack up another multi-touchdown game as well.

Colt McCoy - Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns and quarterback Colt McCoy may not be the most exciting pairing, but they are consistent if nothing else. McCoy has gotten off to a pretty good start this season with 984 yards and six touchdowns through four games, and he should have a very favorable matchup against the Oakland Raiders' pass defense.

McCoy has thrown for at least 200 yards and one touchdown in every game this season, so his floor is pretty high—even if his ceiling isn't. McCoy unleashed 61 passing against the Tennessee Titans two weeks ago, and while he likely won't do that again, it shows that head coach Pat Shurmur and the Browns are committed to throwing the ball, so that bodes well for McCoy's Week 6 prospects.

Sam Bradford - St. Louis Rams

The 2011 season has gotten off to a nightmarish start for both quarterback Sam Bradford and the St. Louis Rams, as a whole. Not only are the Rams currently 0-4 despite entering the season as the favorites in the NFC West, but Bradford has just 849 yards and three touchdown passes through four contests.

Much was expected of Bradford after an excellent rookie season and the addition of passing-game guru Josh McDaniels as offensive coordinator. Bradford has just one game with more than 200 passing yards this season, though, despite the fact that St. Louis has often been playing from behind.

The Rams will take on the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, and the Packers have certainly struggled to defend the pass this season. When you add that to the fact that McDaniels was able to use the bye week to develop some new wrinkles to the offense, all signs point to a bounce-back game for Bradford.
