Week 6 Fantasy Football Sleepers: Colt McCoy, Daniel Thomas and Dustin Keller

Josh MartinOct 14, 2011

Prowling the bargain bin for fantasy football sleepers, are you? It can be tough, I know, scrounging around for points, hoping to find a diamond in the rough, especially now that we're into Week 6 of the 2011 NFL season.

By now, most of the once-hidden gems have been uncovered, but these guys are still flying just a smidgen under the radar and should post some solid numbers for your fantasy team this week.

Colt McCoy, QB, Cleveland Browns

I'm not one for clairvoyance, but it's tough to ignore all the signs pointing to a big week for Colt McCoy. He's well rested from the Browns' bye week, he'll have beastly wide receiver Greg Little in the starting lineup and, most importantly, he'll be up against a Raiders defense that ranks 29th in the NFL in passing yards allowed—which has given up 10 touchdowns through the air and surrenders the third-most fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks of any unit in the league.

Oakland also happens to have a pretty spectacular offense, just the sort that should scamper out to a sizable lead and force McCoy to throw the ball, say, 43 times, his average for attempts per game this season.

Daniel Thomas, RB, Miami Dolphins

This just in (or not): the Dolphins stink, Reggie Bush isn't an every-down back, and Matt Moore will be taking over under center for the injured Chad Henne.

Okay, so maybe Daniel Thomas isn't exactly an unknown quantity in the fantasy world, but he's not exactly a top-10-type guy, either.

Not yet, at least. He may well look like one on Monday night against the Jets, who've allowed the fifth-most points to opposing fantasy backs. That shouldn't come as too much of a surprise if you follow the numbers, as Gang Green has already been gutted for eight touchdowns on the ground and 134.8 rushing yards per game.

And if Tony Sparano has any desire whatsoever to stay in South Beach on a salary after Miami's bye week, he'll do anything to keep the ball out of Moore's hands.

Dustin Keller, TE, New York Jets

If tight end production is what you fancy, then just check the other sideline on Monday night, where you'll find a happy and productive Dustin Keller.

If not for New England's naked pass defense, Miami's would be the worst in the NFL. Along those same lines, the Dolphins rank behind only the Bears and the Jaguars among teams that are the most fantasy-friendly for tight ends.

If Brian Schottenheimer is smart, he'll let Mark Sanchez throw early and often, though preferably to the soft spots in the Fins' defense, where Keller will be waiting for the ball.
