Fantasy Football Rankings Week 6: Aaron Rodgers and Week's Top QBs

Michael DixonOct 11, 2011

For years, running backs dominated the fantasy football scene. It makes sense; they are really the only fantasy position whose point totals aren't directly dependent on another position.

Quarterbacks need receivers and tight ends. Receivers and tight ends need quarterbacks. It's really pretty simple.

But now, we are watching the era of the platoon back. Unless you can land one of the NFL's few true feature backs, you are going to have to scramble for running back points.

But with a heavy emphasis on the pass, constantly changing rules for defenders and a surplus of Hall of Fame caliber quarterbacks, quarterback has become fantasy's best position.

These are all strong quarterbacks in good Week 6 matchups. Because of that, they need to be strongly considered as not only the most dangerous fantasy quarterbacks, but fantasy players in general.

Aaron Rodgers

Another day for Rodgers, another big week. The Rams defense would hardly seem to be the ideal candidate to shut Rodgers and the Packers down.

The Packers were flat at times against the Falcons on Sunday night. Still, they managed a solid offensive performance by the time the game was over.

Even though the Rams are coming off of a bye and are therefore theoretically going to be better prepared for the Green Bay attack, I don't like their chances.

Rodgers might be the best quarterback in the game right now. If he's not, it's a very short list.

Ryan Fitzpatrick

Fitzpatrick has tapered off a little in the last few weeks, but this is a good matchup.

The Giants' secondary is depleted; that's all there is to it. Seattle threw for way too many yards against New York last week. When you consider that offense, Buffalo would seem to be likely for a bonanza of points this week.

Of course, if the Bills have a bonanza, their quarterback will too.

Cam Newton

I could go with Tom Brady here, but hear me out. The Patriots have increased their focus on the run game in recent weeks and have actually played much better as a team.

I really expect that to happen more this week. They will be much less predictable in their offensive play calling against Dallas, keeping Demarcus Ware guessing.

Now, the Atlanta defense hasn't been able to stop anyone this year. Even though the Panthers are on the road, they're in a dome.

I don't think the Panthers will win (though I wouldn't be surprised), but I do think Newton's great start will continue.
