Bears vs. Lions: Lions Primed for Bears Beatdown on Monday Night

Gabe ZaldivarOct 10, 2011

The NFC North is in the middle of an upheaval of sorts. The Detroit Lions have momentum on their side, and it will prove to be the difference in their clash with the Chicago Bears on Monday Night.

On Monday, the NFL will part ways with Hank Williams Jr. as the intro song, and instead concentrate on a legendary player for the home team.

Barry Sanders brings back memories of when the Lions had an ace in the hole that other teams would covet. Since his early retirement, there have been far more bad games than good. Detroit seemed to be forever mired in lackluster seasons.

That is not the case this year. Their recent success goes far beyond a versatile offense and marvelous pass rush. You just get the sense that things are different.

The culture of a perennial loser is gone, infused with the hope that the Lions could very well win the division. On the other side of the field are the Chicago Bears.

The last three weeks have been rather trying on the Bears. Their offense was riddles with a porous line and far too many hits sustained by Jay Cutler

The defense has given up far too many points, and they were told their place in the league when they received losses at the hands of the Saints and Packers

Last week nearly saw them drop a game to the Carolina Panthers. The Bears are headed the exact opposite direction the Lions are.

On Monday Night, we get a change to the script that was delivered a couple months ago. The storyline may be the same. An underrated team continues to prove themselves as they continue winning. The only thing that has changed is the teams. The Bears and Lions switch sides as the Lions enjoy the spoils of being the division stalwart.

The Lions' defense has done just enough to win in the first four weeks. The discrepancy of note on Monday will be the prolific passing game of the Lions against a disturbingly vacant Bears secondary.

This will be a shootout that the Lions will win. They have the talent, the poise and, most importantly, the momentum.

Savor this Detroit; it's not every year that you are assured a Chicago beatdown on national television.
