UFC on Fox: 5 Reasons Cain Velasquez-Junior Dos Santos Will Live Up To The Hype
The first show in the new UFC-Fox TV deal has all the makings of being the most influential fight in UFC history.
On most events, the UFC features around five fights to sell the show around. The UFC on Fox event has just one scheduled fight to air on TV.
The UFC Heavyweight title, along with so much more, will be on the line when Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos step inside the octagon.
There's going to be a lot of hype surrounding the event, but the two men will deliver and reward us fans.
5. Styles Make Money
1 of 5Dana White always says, "styles make fights."
In this case, styles make money.
JDS' style is exciting in that he possesses arguably the best boxing in the heavyweight division. The guy throws every punch as if he's going to punch through your head.
If Dos Santos is The Terminator, Velasquez is the T-1000. He's a new breed of heavyweight.
Much like we've seen with Jon Jones in the light heavyweight division, Velasquez possesses the rare combination of elite level wrestling along with very good and diverse striking.
Velasquez also has a better gas tank than a Toyota Prius. He won't tire, and I don't believe this fight will last long enough for Dos Santos to be winded.
Heavyweight fights tend to be very sloppy after both men tire, but I just don't see that happening in this fight.
4. A Heavyweight Fight That Means Something
2 of 5The general public's fascination with heavyweight fighters is well documented.
Throughout history, fans of boxing were always ready to tune in to see the two big guys go at it. The same goes for MMA.
There's something special about watching athletes that big be able to do the things they can do in the octagon.
The heavyweight champion of the world was once considered "the baddest man on the planet." Velasquez and Dos Santos will look to earn that title on Nov. 12.
3. No Decision Necessary
3 of 5Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos have been to the judges' scorecards only three times in 23 combined fights.
As with any heavyweight fight, it's a pretty good bet we won't be needing the judges to tell us who won the fight.
Virtually everyone in the UFC always makes a note to say, "Don't leave it in the hands of the judges."
These two men will not let the controversy surrounding a judge's scorecard overshadow the fight itself.
2. Its a Free UFC Title Fight
4 of 5As I said with the Dominick Cruz fight, what's better than a free UFC fight? A UFC Title fight of course!
Fans are used to the UFC offering free fights only to give them one, maybe two fights that would even make it to a PPV broadcast. But now the UFC has gone all in by giving us a free UFC Heavyweight title fight on national television.
Dana White knows he's not missing out on a lot of money, as neither man has proven to be a major PPV draw, but all that looks to change following an exciting bout with a sure conclusion.
1. A Sense of Competition
5 of 5There's no doubt that there's a lot on the line for the UFC with this fight.
The majority of fighters in the UFC will tell you they do it for the love of competition. Velasquez and Dos Santos are no exception.
They know what's on the line with their fight. It will decide the future of the UFC itself, not only just the UFC on Fox. There's possibility of gaining thousands of fans from one broadcast on national television and creating, as Rashad Evans liked to call, "a brand" for yourself.
Oh, and also, the UFC Heavyweight title is on the line as well.
Velasquez and Dos Santos know what's at stake, and they will rise to the occasion and deliver a fight that we will look back on and call one of the UFC's turning points in their history.
