UFC 136 Fight Card: 7 Things You Will NOT See Tonight
There are a great many things that MMA fans will see throughout the duration of UFC 136, but there are also some things that fans will not see.
Fortunately for those who shelled out the money to watch (be it in person or on pay-per-view), the things that won't be seen aren't essential to having a good event; we will still see some great stuff!
So what will we definitely NOT be talking about at the water cooler Monday morning (or Tuesday morning if you have Columbus Day off)? Read and find out!
A Boring Fight (hopefully)
1 of 7All of the matchups at UFC 136 appear to be well put together by expert UFC matchmaker Joe Silva.
Hopefully, UFC 136 will be without a boring fight.
There might be a couple on the preliminaries that leave fans wanting more (although a true fan is never "bored" when watching MMA), but every fight on the main card will be well worth the price of admission; not a single boring fight will be seen on the pay-per-view!
Joey Beltran Being Timid
2 of 7While Joey Beltran was originally brought in as a stepping stone for Rolles Gracie, he defeated Gracie and earned quite a following due to his humble, friendly personality and exciting fighting style.
Every one of Beltran's fights in the UFC has been a thrilling, scrappy fight that people simply love to watch.
And, according to MMAjunkie.com, Beltran has no plans of stopping this approach. "I'm just trying to beat his ass from the start of the bell... I don't want him to get an opportunity for him to implement his game plan or show off his skills. I'm trying to get in there and get the job done as quick as possible," he said regarding his opponent, Stipe Miocic.
Demian Maia Losing to Jorge Santiago, or Santiago Even Going the Distance
3 of 7Demian Maia may not have been the Sengoku middleweight champion like his UFC 136 opponent Jorge Santiago was, but he has fought much better competition and will no doubt finish Santiago.
Maia's Brazilian jiu-jitsu is far too advanced for Santiago; Maia will have no problem submitting him if it goes to the ground.
In addition, Maia's striking has improved by leaps and bounds; this will definitely spell trouble for the weak-chinned Santiago.
Maia can and will finish this fight any way he wants to.
Joe Lauzon Beating Melvin Guillard
4 of 7Simply put, Melvin Guillard is too strong, fast and well improved for Joe Luazon to have a chance at beating him.
Lauzon's submissions may be better, but Lauzon doesn't have the tools to take Guillard "2.0" to the ground and tap him out.
Guillard will outpace and overpower Lauzon and earn a (T)KO victory.
Leonard Garcia vs. Nam Phan Not Being a Fight of the Night Candidate
5 of 7The first fight between Leonard Garcia and Nam Phan was the kind of striking-oriented contest that fans crave. As such, it earned fight of the night honors.
Their second fight will definitely be a candidate for UFC 136's fight of the night and would be an easy winner if Frankie Edgar versus Gray Maynard and Jose Aldo versus Kenny Florian—two fights that have amazing potential to entertain fans—weren't the main event and co-main events, respectively.
Brian Stann Not Getting Taken Down
6 of 7Brian Stann is set to fight Chael Sonnen at UFC 136. Sonnen's wrestling is perhaps the best in the middleweight division, and Stann's wrestling has always been his Achilles' heel.
Thus, we won't see Stann not getting taken to the mat at least once during their fight.
Another Draw Between Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard
7 of 7After two fights, UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar and challenger Gray Maynard know each other well enough to craft perfect game plans.
Because of this fact, the last thing we will see (for the sake of the UFC lightweight divisions and fans everywhere) is another draw between the two competitors.
