NFL Trade Rumors: The Latest Buzz Surrounding Browns RB Peyton Hillis

John RozumOct 7, 2011

Once again the City of Cleveland is having to deal with more bad luck-so to speak.

And it couldn't come at a worse possible time, especially when there's a few pieces in play to rebuilding a once dominant franchise.

A once dominant franchise 50-some years ago, and are only one of six teams to yet reach a Super Bowl.

Well, it appears that winning an AFC title will have to wait a little longer, because 1964 has already been a distant memory.

According to Gregg Rosenthal of NBC Sports, Browns RB Peyton Hillis may ask for a trade in the near future:

"

"Hillis wasn’t happy with his lack of usage after last week’s game. Tony Grossi of theCleveland Plain-Dealer believes the drama may only be starting.

"Grossi opined on a video segment that he thinks Hillis will request a trade as the “next step” in the process.  The contract talk is “not going well” according to Grossi, who says the Browns see Montario Hardesty as a runner with a higher ceiling."

"

So, that's apparently all it takes nowadays to upset your perceived best player and get them to be unhappy with their current contract situation.

For all we know this could be the "Madden Curse" at work, but instead it's causing in-house problems as opposed to injuries.

That is, if you believe in curses, or, it could just be greed, you know, one of the seven deadly sins.

But I digress.

And regardless of how this situation plays out, hasn't Cleveland been through enough with all their professional sports organizations?

The details will be spared, but if there's anything that the Browns in particular need, it's a running game.

Sure Montario Hardesty is a solid No. 2/change of pace back, but he's only playing because Brandon Jackson is currently out.

Last season Peyton Hillis burst onto the NFL scene by jumping over defenders like he was in his own little 110m high hurdle track race.

That said, it was obvious that defenses would be better prepared for Hillis in 2011, and he and the Browns should have vehemently anticipated that.

However, that hasn't been the case and now they stand in their current state.

The last thing the Browns would want to do is trade away Peyton Hillis, because it's only going to set them back a few more years.

Not to mention their fans will let them know it (understatement of the century).

Whenever and however the smoke clears in a situation that hardly anyone saw coming in the preseason, Cleveland needs to keep Peyton Hillis.

They shouldn't even worry about what they could get for him via trade, because based on what he did last season, that proves there is hope for the Browns.

And lest we forget about what happened in Denver between team owner Pat Bowlen, QB Jay Cutler and then-head coach Josh McDaniels.

Neither of the three parties handled the situation properly and it just kept getting worse and worse.

Plus, when was the last time a team traded away their QB who just set the franchise's single season record for most passing yards?

Now look at where the Broncos are. At the bottom and looking up... again.

The sooner the Browns clean this up the better off they'll be, because not having Peyton Hillis in the backfield should not be an option.
