WWE: Triple H Not Stepping Down as COO Undermines the Credibility of the Talent

Imaan JalaliOct 6, 2011

This past Monday night on Raw, we saw every wrestler except a small handful of the top-tier stars walk out on the COO, Triple H, signifying a vote of no-confidence.

To no one's surprise, the "King of Kings" was further lionized by a crowd of fans who decided at that very moment every performer but Triple H was expendable.

"Triple H, Triple H, Triple H" echoed throughout the arena, as the man playing him looked solemnly into the camera, distraught and hurt, yet uplifted by the glowing sympathy of the WWE universe.

In that moment the former degenerate, now corporate bastion, became a richer, more three dimensional character than we are used to seeing. The sad part of it all is Triple H had absolutely nothing to gain from being practically martyred on live television.

His legacy is firmly and unequivocally entrenched in WWE lore. He has vanquished every foe, won every accolade and become such an ad-nauseum fixture that his recurring appearances have been known to provoke gag reflexes across the globe.

Most fans' throats were thought to be safely unsoiled for the foreseeable future at the conclusion of Monday's show if the vote of no-confidence by virtually the entire roster was any indication. Surely, a COO would step down in real life when 95 percent of the workforce exercises patent displeasure.

Triple H had served his purpose as a main character and now it was someone else's time to shine, right?

Be that as it may, WWE.com has announced the unthinkable, the irrational and the absurd all rolled into one malodorous mass.

The breaking news update reads that Triple H "vows to absolutely not step down from running Raw Supershow. Furthermore, Triple H vows that John Cena, CM Punk, Sheamus, Randy Orton, and the the Big Show will headline Monday night's telecast..."

Only in the WWE can a nearly unanimous vote of no-confidence be ignored and "buried" by a man who is notorious, inside and outside of the ring, for piling on dirt atop of burgeoning careers.

Certainly, the company is truly blameworthy for this new wrinkle in the storyline. However, fans' perception will be that everyone is at Triple H's mercy or that only a select few matter.

Just don't expect the divas division, 98 percent of the Smackdown roster and everybody on the Raw roster (sans CM Punk and John Cena) to be given the light of day by the fans any time soon.

If a majority of the roster's word carries no weight against one man, what's the point?

Are you a lower-card talent? In the middle of the pack? Upper-midcard trying to break through? Don't bother busting your tail in an effort to advance your characterization for a company that has no respect for you.

Essentially, if the talent reads between the lines, that is precisely what he or she will read in big, bold letters. If they are going to be depicted as inconsequential buffoons then not only are they squandering their time, their existence on WWE TV is pointless.

In fact, they are an insult to the fans' intelligence who wouldn't dare emotionally invest in one of them.

And the company wonders why the viewing public simultaneously click their remote controls in unison when John Morrison, Kofi Kingston, Wade Barrett, Dolph Ziggler, the divas, or anyone else in a similar position, is being "featured."
