Triple H, Mark Henry, and the Surreal No Confidence Vote on WWE RAW

Tom ClarkOct 7, 2011

So how are you feeling about the no-confidence vote that happened on Raw this past Monday?

Yeah, me too.

On one hand, I like it. It’s fresh, it’s different, and who knows what direction this could all eventually go in? All of the problems that Raw has been having as of late keep getting laid at Triple H’s door, so there had to be a breaking point, which is obviously what happened on Monday.

On the other hand, it looks as though they’re reaching for a storyline, that perhaps this whole angle is just being written as they go, with no thought given as to how it will look when actually executed.

In other words, it looked pretty good on paper, but, well, you know the rest.

I know, I’m just another Featured Columnist who is complaining about WWE, once again not happy with the product, and choosing to air his grievances for the whole world to read.

Some people just can't be satisfied, right?

It’s not that, trust me, and I assure you that I am not "giving up" on this just as it begins, nor am I trying to be too negative too soon.

But, and you knew there was a but, I have to say, there is something that’s irking me about the whole scene from Monday night.

Why was Mark Henry at the ring?

Is it just me, or did he seem extremely out of place?  Think about it, you have nearly every worker from both the RAW and SmackDown locker rooms, surrounding the ring, protesting that Triple H is causing an unsafe working environment.

And, Mark Henry is there, nodding his head in agreement.

Okay.

Now, I get what the talent are saying, and on its face, there does seem to be some logic behind their claims.

The referees do seem to be catching more abuse lately, and the situation with Miz and R-Truth has gotten completely out of control.  All of this has happened on Hunter’s watch as COO.  The whole vibe that has been created is one of chaos, and it has been done pretty well, I must say.

But while it does makes sense on some level, one glaring event is sticking out at me like a 450 pound monster.

Why was Mark Henry at the ring?

Yes, I am repeating myself, and no, it’s not helping.

Some fans, however, have an issue with who was not at ringside, as opposed to who was, namely John Cena and CM Punk.

It’s being reported online that both men, in addition to Randy Orton, Sheamus, the newly minted baby face Mason Ryan, and Kelly Kelly, were all kept out of the spot, as WWE did not want them to get booed with the rest of the roster.

Truth be told, I didn’t have a problem with them not being at ringside to begin with, mostly because if WWE wanted the angle to play out properly, no one could be allowed to side with Triple H.

And, we all know that John would have been the first man to jump into the ring, shake Hunter’s hand, and tell the rest of the workers that they should be responsible for themselves, and not blame Hunter for anything.  So, I was actually okay with that.

But, there was one thing I was not okay with, and that is the fact that Mark Henry  was at the ring.

Okay, so why is it bugging me so much?  Because Mark is a prime cause of the unsafe working environment.

For the past several months that Henry has been on his vicious rampage through WWE, where was Triple H?  Shouldn’t the COO have addressed the issue a long time ago?

To make matters worse, Jerry Lawler was in the ring, telling Hunter that yes, he was to blame for the program being out of control.

Okay, yes, Triple H’s character should have done something to stop Mark Henry, that’s a given, but, who put you through the table, Jerry?  Was it Triple H?  And, by the way, aren’t you a WWE Hall of Famer, a wrestling legend, a guy who has always fought his own battles?  Why don’t you approach the man who actually hurt you, the guy you have the real problem with?

He’s standing right there, Jerry, go ahead, talk to him.

It was just a surreal moment, to see Mark Henry, a bloodthirsty Terminator come to life, agreeing with everything that the other Superstars said.

“Yeah, they’re right, Hunter.  How could you just let me attack Jerry Lawler, Kane, Big Show, Vladimir Kozlov, The Great Khali, and the sound guy, and just let me get away with it?  Now, these people are afraid to come to work because of guys like me, and it’s all your fault!”

Maybe I’m making more out of this than need be, fine.  Perhaps I am just being too critical, okay, I can see that.  But, the more I watch the spot, the less and less sense it makes.

It’s okay, I’m good, I’ll let it go, no worries.

But, did you see the way that Mark Henry, the same guy who has been unapproachable, and flat out too scary to even be around,  try to persuade William Regal to keep walking up the ramp, away from the ring?

“Come on, man, it ain’t worth it. Let’s go hang out, and have a beer.”  Aggghhh!

And, it’s on that note that I also will choose to walk away, before I find something else that bothers me.

At least for now.
