UFC 136: Chael Sonnen and 5 Fighters Who Should Coach on the Ultimate Fighter

Vince CareyOct 4, 2011

This season of The Ultimate Fighter has been extremely entertaining, with the featherweight and bantamweight weight classes putting on great fights.

The banter between coaches Michael Bisping and Jason "Mayhem" Miller has been great as well, and it looks like the two will start to loathe each other more and more as the season goes on.

But as good as this season has been, there is still a little bit of wondering going through the minds of fans of "What could have been?"

That’s because the best trash talker in the UFC, Chael Sonnen, was originally set to coach opposite Bisping, but due to issues with the California State Athletic Commission, he was unable to commit to the show.

Sonnen is one of the fighters fans have been longing to see as a coach on the show, along with several others.

Here are five fighters who would be perfect coaches on The Ultimate Fighter.

Chael Sonnen

1 of 5

When Chael Sonnen talks, fans just sit back and enjoy the fireworks.

No one in the UFC is able to hype a fight as well as Sonnen, and it would be interesting how much material he would be able to throw out over 13 episodes.

Sonnen is in the prime of his career, and is still riding a ton of momentum after almost defeating UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva last year, so it would be smart for the UFC to strike while the iron is hot and feature Sonnen on the show.

Brian Stann

2 of 5

A true American hero, Brian Stann has looked phenomenal since moving to the middleweight division.

Stann has been knocking people out, built up a decent win streak, and more importantly, has built a decent-sized fanbase.

The UFC is lacking true stars at the moment and Stann could be one of those guys who puts them over the top.

He’s a war veteran and a damn good fighter, and with the exposure that comes with being on TUF, he could end up being the next Randy Couture.

Diego Sanchez

3 of 5

After all, he is the original "Ultimate Fighter."

Sanchez defeated Kenny Florian to win the first competition and he has been lobbying to get back on the show as a coach for a few years now.

After a considerably successful UFC career where the only thing that has eluded him is a UFC title, Sanchez could use an opportunity on TUF to get back in the spotlight and possibly get him another shot at UFC gold.

Urijah Faber

4 of 5

One of the most popular fighters in the UFC, it would seem wrong if Urijah Faber never gets the opportunity to coach the show.

Faber is one of the few fighters who was able to become a household name outside of the UFC, as  he became a superstar while fighting for the company's sister promotion, the WEC.

Though Faber has only been in the actual UFC for less than a year, it is safe to assume that he will eventually get to coach The Ultimate Fighter.

Kenny Florian

5 of 5

One of the most well spoken and presentable fighters in the sport, it is hard to find a better model for the UFC than Kenny Florian.

He isn’t blessed with the most talent, but through hard work he has gone from a runner-up on the first season of TUF to a legitimate UFC title competitor.

Florian has fought in four different weight classes and is about to get his third chance at UFC gold this weekend at UFC 136, but he has never had a chance to coach TUF.
