WWE Hell in a Cell 2011: How the WWE Botched Albert Del Rio's Win
Don’t get it fooled, there is more to creating an effective heel than slapping a belt on him and calling him champ, and the WWE has dropped the ball twice with Alberto Del Rio.
At Hell in a Cell the WWE had the chance to validate Del Rio’s push, finally, and make him credible by beating the WWE’s two biggest stars in the most brutal match the company has to offer.
Instead the WWE had Del Rio cheat his way to a win and cheapen his title yet again. Don’t forget, this is the same Del Rio who beat a weakened Punk for his first strap which he lost clean to John Cena less than a month later.

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
If the WWE wanted to strengthen their product they could have done more than let Del Rio sneak his way into a belt. The WWE could have let a clean pinfall prove that Del Rio was as capable as he was slimy. It’s the thing that makes a heel a good heel. WWE is nothing if they don’t have strong heels at the top.
Sure, we all the love the idea of a heel getting their just deserts. We love the thought that when they finally have to face the hero straight up they’ll get the boot to the behind and justice served, but what makes a great heel is the thought that even in a fair match the heel might prevail.
In a world where Super Cena is alive and well the need for a top level heel is a must, but perhaps the WWE has some aversion to a clean win. Perhaps they are convinced that John Cena’s t-shirt sales would dip if confronted with a real adversary.
No matter what we think of the WWE’s product, it can be agreed that heels with no credibility help no one. The WWE had a chance to finally give us a heel worth talking about and the WWE dropped the ball.
