Week 5 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Davone Bess and 3 Players to Avoid

Adam SpencerOct 4, 2011

There have been plenty of injuries in the wide receiver ranks in the NFL this season.

And, in coming weeks, there will be plenty of stars on bye weeks.

So, there will be a need to add some waiver wire guys to help bolster your receiving totals.

But, that doesn't mean you should add just anyone to your roster.

Let's take a look at three players with mediocre numbers who don't deserve a spot on your team.

Davone Bess, WR, Miami Dolphins (48 Percent Owned)

The Dolphins are on a bye this week, so you shouldn't pick up Bess anyway.

But, next week, don't even think of adding Bess. And, if you already have him on your team, you might want to think about dropping him.

Yes, he has 207 receiving yards so far, but don't let that fool you. He had nearly half of those yards in Week 1.

He also can't find the end zone. His career high is five touchdowns in one year and I don't expect him to come anywhere near that total this year, especially with the way the 0-4 Dolphins have been playing offensively.

Get rid of him and free up a roster spot for yourself.

Michael Jenkins, WR, Minnesota Vikings (Six Percent Owned)

Don't be fooled by Jenkins' two touchdown catches so far this year.

He's not a big part of the Vikings offense and never will be.

The Vikings have Percy Harvin, Adrian Peterson and Visanthe Shiancoe as bigger parts of the offense than Jenkins, who couldn't work his way into much of a featured role with the Atlanta Falcons either.

Add in the fact that he has the washed-up Donovan McNabb throwing him the ball and it's going to be a long season for Jenkins.

Don't grab him to replace any of your bye week receivers. He won't help out that much.

Ed Dickson, TE, Baltimore Ravens (19 Percent Owned)

Dickson is not going to have any fantasy value until Joe Flacco gets his act together on a consistent basis.

The Ravens' Sunday night victory against the New York Jets was an ugly one for the offense. Flacco finished the game a dismal 10-for-31 passing.

Dickson did lead the team with four catches, but only amassed 45 yards and didn't score.

Flacco is just too inconsistent at this point, making Dickson a risky play at best this year.

I wouldn't go near him unless I was truly desperate.
