Fantasy Football Week 5: Andre Johnson and 4 Players Losing Stock

John RozumOct 3, 2011

In the world of fantasy football, the health of your players and the yards they rack up are arguably the two most important factors.

Yes scoring TDs is great, but from an accumulative perspective, compiling up yards and moving the chains is what it all comes down to.

This in turn can only be effectively and consistently achieved when the player is healthy.

So having those tangible and intangibles in mind, here are four players whose fantasy stock is dropping.

Andre Johnson: WR, Houston Texans

Right now it's mostly about Johnson's health and whether or not he suits up on Sunday.

And if so, despite not being 100 percent Johnson will still earn you some points, but nothing like when he's full healthy.

That being said, don't be surprised if Houston has Andre take Week 5 off just for precautionary reasons, and for the betterment of his health late in the year.

If he ends up playing, great, go ahead and start him, but just be aware that the numbers may not be nearly as productive as they were in Weeks 1, 2, and 3.

Brandon Marshall: WR, Miami Dolphins

With Brandon Marshall, it's not so much health as it is confidence and frustration.

Miami is 0-4, going nowhere fast, has been in the midst of a QB dilemma since what's seemed like forever, and their head coach has been in the hot-seat since 2010.

It's no secret as to why Marshall only has 13 catches and one TD through four games in 2011.

The only problem is, you know that he's too good to not be this ill-productive all season, the question is trying to guess when he's going to breakout.

In any event, if there's a better or more prosperous replacement for Marshall, make the executive decision, because there's no reason to waste time with an angry WR.

Peyton Hillis: RB, Cleveland Browns

Not sure if it's the Madden curse if the Browns are just underachieving, but RB Peyton Hillis hasn't played like his 2010-self this season.

He did his real team and fantasy teams well against Indianapolis, but the other two games are nowhere near those numbers.

Now add the fact that the recent strep throat has clearly been a factor, and Cleveland is in dire straits.

Luckily for them however, Week 5 is their bye-week so in addition to the obvious benching of Hillis, maybe he'll come back rejuvenated in Week 6 against the Oakland Raiders.

Until then though, keep an eye on his health because despite his value to Cleveland, he may not be as valuable in fantasy as previously anticipated.

Ben Roethlisberger: QB, Pittsburgh Steelers

He's not 100 percent, his offensive line has given up 14 sacks, and he's only thrown three TDs to five picks through four games.

Yes, Pittsburgh's Ben Roethlisberger is underachieving, and having the No. 20 ranked rushing offense doesn't help either.

And despite having solid receiving threats in Mike Wallace, Hines Ward, and Heath Miller, the Steelers are 2-2 and have their two wins against Indianapolis and Seattle.

Big Ben's performance this season has definitely been disappointing for fantasy owners to say the least, and you can't expect him to get back on track with arguably the NFL's worst offensive line.

Sure he'll be able to buy time because he's so agile, nimble, and elusive, but with defenses constantly getting pressure, he'll most likely end up throwing more picks than TDs this season, and especially so if he's not 100 percent.
