Who Cares If Arsenal Are In a So-Called Crisis? They Have Van Persie

Callum D'SouzaNov 30, 2008

It was probably the biggest breath of fresh air for Arsene Wenger's men as they beat Premier League leaders Chelsea in their backyard 2-1 thanks to two stunning goals by one stunning player.

Arsenal scored all three goals, but, unfortunately, a mishap in the Arsenal defence meant Chelsea got on the score sheet.

It was a memorable second half in which Arsenal turned the game around. Their passing and movement was superb, unlike in the first 45 minutes where Wenger's men failed to get out of their own half.

Cesc Fàbregas, Robin van Persie, and William Gallas were standouts for the Gunners, especially van Persie whose sensational goals, in the space of four minutes, drove the Arsenal to their sensational win.

Van Persie's first goal had a controversy in which a Denilson pass to the Dutchman could have easily been called off side, except for a controversial touch of former Arsenal man Ashley Cole. Van Persie then found space and smashed it in the top corner on his weaker foot, an excellent effort.

His second came four minutes later. Arsenal were lifted by van Persie's amazing precision and balance.

Cesc Fàbregas' long-range free kick rebounded off William Gallas' bald head and fell to the Dutchman, who was surrounded by 50 blue boys.

But van Persie's superb balance allowed him to turn and precisely angle his shot into the corner of the goal, passing a bewildered Petr Čech.

It was a boring, uneventful first half, which saw them 1-0 down at the break. Arsenal started rusty, and it looked like another disappointing defeat for Arsenal when Almunia's horror throw meant Chelsea had a mass overlap and Boswinga's cross was deflected in to the right corner of the Arsenal goal, thanks to an unlucky Johan Djourou.

Wenger must have said or done something because the red and white youngsters came into the second half-rejuvenated and alive, ready to rebuild and get their season back into the right mode.

The return of Arsenal's reliable right back Bacary Sagna meant the right flank was kept tidy and safe. I believe that is what Arsenal lacked against Manchester City, sufficient right hand defence.

It was also a little disappointing to see Emmanuel Adebayor lack his natural touch and skill, but, to be fair to the Togolese man, he has just returned from injury.

A superb performance which now brings some much needed belief and confidence to Wenger's boys. Hopefully, this is the turning point in the season where Arsenal don't drop any more points.

With the likes of Theo Walcott, Emmanuel Eboue, Abou Diaby, Eduardo, and Tomas Rosicky all likely to return soon Arsenal future sure looks brighter than before
