Alabama Football: AJ McCarron Will Prove He Can Lead Alabama to Championship
Those who still have reservations about Alabama are probably hesitant to buy in because they don't see AJ McCarron as a National Championship quarterback. All of that will change this weekend, when McCarron leads the Crimson Tide to their third signature win of the season over Florida.
McCarron isn't Cam Newton, but he doesn't need to be. His job is to throw for around 200 yards per game, limit mistakes and orchestrate the offense, and he does a great job at it.
Trent Richardson is the heartbeat of the Alabama offense, and the offense doesn't see a drop-off in production when Eddie Lacy takes the field.
The Bama ground game can literally carry the offense, and they've proven that time and time again. With the defense allowing a ridiculous eight points a game, Alabama can win without McCarron being spectacular.
He's got a huge game in front of him this weekend and will get to go on the road and prove himself once again. It's fair to call him a game manager, and that's exactly what the Crimson Tide need him to be.
By giving him more responsibility, they would be getting away from their identity. Alabama is a run-first smash mouth football team. Nobody can stop their run game, and their defense is as stout as they come.
They don't need their quarterback to take over the game; they just need him not to screw it up. Alabama operates differently than Oklahoma does with Landry Jones. It's no secret that their strengths lie outside of the pocket, and that's okay.
Once the Alabama run game softens up Florida, McCarron will be able to come in and put his efficiency on display. He's not going to light up the Gators by any means, but he can still prove he is capable of leading his team to victory against anyone in the country.
