Manchester United vs. Norwich: Wayne Rooney Will Lead United Back to Dominance

Andrew KulhaSep 30, 2011

Norwich didn't stand much of a chance against the Manchester United Red Devils, and that was before Wayne Rooney was cleared to play.

Simply put, Norwich is going to be in for a very rough time against United.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side is coming off a tough match against Basel that they should have won, but instead their sloppy play led to a 3-3 draw. Truth be told, they should have lost the match, and if it wasn't for a last equalizer they would have.

United didn't deserve to get points from Basel, and they know it, so I expect Ferguson to have his squad focused and ready to win against Norwich City.

It would have been a hard-fought game, but with the news that not only Wayne Rooney, but also fellow star Javier Hernandez will be returning to the field, it looks like this match just went from hard-fought to easy pickings.

To pile on to the mess that Norwich will find themselves in, it looks like defender Jonny Evans may be healthy and able to suit up as well. Here is an ESPN report on Ferguson's thoughts on the state of his team:

"

Ferguson initially claimed Rooney could be sidelined for weeks, but the forward seems set to return after missing the midweek draw with Basel in the Champions League.

"Wayne and Hernandez should be fit for tomorrow," Ferguson said. "They've been training very well so I'm pleased. We'll hopefully have Jonny Evans back too."

Defensive reinforcements should also be available after the upcoming international break, a welcome boost for Ferguson after some sloppy performances in Tuesday's 3-3 draw against Basel at Old Trafford.

He said: "At the moment we're making too many changes in the back four so hopefully his [Evans] return will help us with the defensive part. [Nemanja] Vidic, [Tom] Cleverley and [Chris] Smalling should be ready after the internationals and available for Liverpool.

"There's been talk of underestimating our opponents [Basel] - I think there's an element of truth to that. But we have to be better defensively."

"

United undoubtedly underestimated their opponents earlier this week, and that is something that Ferguson will address. I expect him to have his team focused and ready to go.

Norwich may not realize it, but they are walking into the perfect storm.

That new focus, plus a healthy Rooney, Hernandez and Evans will take this team from a very good side to a potentially dominant football club.

I expect them to be dominant not only against Norwich, but moving onward throughout the season.
