Could a Move to Juventus Help Fernando Torres Revive His Career After Chelsea?

Joe TanseyJun 7, 2018

After a record move to Chelsea from Liverpool in January, Fernando Torres could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge just a year after his arrival.

Torres has only managed three goals and has not found a way to find a consistent starting spot either in the Chelsea lineup under new manager Andre Villas-Boas.

With speculation that Villas-Boas may bring in younger players to revive the lineup at Stamford Bridge, Torres could easily be on the way out.

Having already played in his native Spain for six years with Atletico Madrid of La Liga, Torres may be looking for another challenge in another one of Europe's top leagues, and that challenge could come in Serie A.

The Spanish forward may not permanently sign with an Italian club this January, but he could be a part of a very successful loan move to one of Italy's giants, particularly Juventus.

The change of scenery could work wonders for the 27-year-old player who would be one of the younger players at the forward position if he made a move to Turin.

Torres is younger than aging forwards Alessandro Del Piero, Vincenzo Iaquinta and Luca Toni, and could be a good complement alongside the 28-year-old Fabio Quagliarrera and 27-year-old Mirko Vucinic, who just joined the Turin club from Roma.

One possible problem Torres could have with the move to Juventus is that the Old Lady of Italian football is not in any continental competitions this season after finishing seventh in Serie A last season.

The lack of European competition could actually be a good thing for Torres though; that way he and his potential suitors in Turin are able to focus on qualifying for the Champions League.

The reason a loan move to Italy would work for Torres is because if Juventus does not qualify for Europe next season, Torres could easily move back to Chelsea to seek a first-team place or move to another big club, depending on his performance from January on.

Torres definitely needs a change of scenery since his move to Chelsea has not worked, so why not take a shot at a move to Juventus where Torres could be the face of a historic football club looking to make a move back to glory?
