Redskins vs. Cowboys: Latest Injury Update on WRs Dez Bryant and Miles Austin

Andrea HangstJun 7, 2018

Tonight, the Dallas Cowboys host the Washington Redskins in the final game of Week 3. The Cowboys are trying to improve their 1-1 record and get a leg up in the NFC East, with a win over the 2-0 Redskins.

However, Dallas quarterback Tony Romo will have to attempt this without top target Miles Austin, who is suffering from a hamstring injury. The wide receiver did not participate in Sunday's walkthrough and is confirmed out for tonight's game.

Romo will have to get used to Austin's absence because he's not likely to return to action until after the Cowboys' Week 5 bye. Without him, Romo will need to find another target to make up for the 233 yards and four touchdowns the receiver has provided the team with through the first two games.

Luckily, Romo will have wide receiver Dez Bryant back, after missing Dallas' Week 2 contest against the San Francisco 49ers.

Bryant, set to have the best season of his young career, provided the team with three receptions for 71 yards and a touchdown in the season opener against the New York Jets, before injuring his quad and becoming a non-factor for most of the second half.

Though Bryant won't likely be at 100 percent health in tonight's game, neither will Romo. Romo suffered a broken rib and punctured lung in last week's game and had been questionable heading into tonight's contest while recovering.

The injury and residual pain will could limit Romo's effectiveness and, in turn, the impact that Bryant and the rest of the Dallas receiving corps has on the game.

However, the fact that Romo is ready and willing to participate tonight is a good sign for the team in their pursuit of their second NFC East title in three years.
