Redskins vs. Cowboys: Why Tony Romo Needs Protection Michael Vick Couldn't Get

Tom EdringtonJun 3, 2018

Tony Romo practiced with the Cowboys on Saturday and odds are he'll be on the field against the Redskins tonight in the house that Jerry built.

You may also want to consider the fact that the refs will keep a much closer eye on Romo than they did on Michael Vick yesterday in Philly.

Why?

Well, Jerry Jones for one.

When it comes to making his voice heard, well, Jones is a veritable jukebox. Ask and ye shall receiver.

Do you think Jerry is going to stand for his quarterback taking any cheap shots from those feisty Redskins tonight?

You would think not.

There will be a lot of eyeballs on this one and the last thing NFL commish Roger Goodell wants is Jones barking at him.

Too many people tuned in for this one. And though Romo stands to benefit, you can bet that Rex Grossman won't take any un-flagged big hits, either.

What makes it great is that this is a Cowboys-Redskins game that actually means something, even though it's only Week 3.

The Redskins made it interesting because they had the unmitigated gall to start out 2-0. The nerve of them.

Now to add some mystery to the equation is the Romo injury. He will wear a Kevlar vest to protect his broken rib—and that nasty DeAngelo Hall says he'll simply fire in there on a corner blitz and see just how protective that stuff really is.

So you think Jones didn't take notice of Hall's threats last week?

Now call us naive if you will, but perhaps the officiating crew tonight just might be aware of the same threats made by Mr. Hall.

So if DeAngelo Hall thinks he's simply going to sneak up on Romo and ram his ribs, well, someone needs to break the bad news to the Redskins corner.

This just in:

They'll be watching you, DeAngelo.

The Redskins can go after Romo and that's what they're supposed to do; after all, this still is tackle football, isn't it?

But a word to the wise—you better not get there late.

By the end of the game in Philly, Vick was out of action, nursing what turned out to be a badly bruised, not broken, right hand.

As for Romo, don't look for him to get roughed up with any questionable shots.

The zebras' vision may be sharper than usual.

It's the only game in town, at least for tonight.
