Stoke City vs. Manchester United: Red Devils Prove They Are Vulnerable in Draw

Richard LangfordSep 24, 2011

There is no more perfection in the the land of the English Premier League. Manchester United lost their 100 percent record with a draw to Stoke City, and in the process showed everyone that they are indeed not invincible.

Manchester United was forced to play this game without their star, Wayne Rooney. Rooney's nagging hamstring prevented the all-world striker from playing.

Also, Jonny Evans was injured in the pre-match warm ups. That forced Sir Alex Ferguson to move Antonio Valencia in at right-back and Phil Jones to move into the center.

Manchester United was clearly not at 100 percent for this match, but they had been battling injuries all campaign, and it had yet to slow them down.

Had they come out of this match with a victory, the rest of the EPL may have just conceded them the title.

Stoke City has been nearly unbeatable in the comfy confines of Britannia Stadium.

They have now lost just one time in their past 17 matches played at home.

For the current campaign, Stoke City have yet to lose in six Premier League home matches. Those matches have come against some stiff competition, too—Hajduk Split, Chelsea, Liverpool, FC Thun, Tottenham and now Manchester United.

Red Devil fans should not be dismayed by this blemish. This is a tough place to play, and Man U is understandably a different team without Rooney on the pitch.

However, now there is at least hope for every other team in the EPL that the Red Devils are not completely invincible.
