Arsenal News: Decision to Hide Arsene Wenger from Fans Shows Club's Insecurity

Wes ODonnellSep 22, 2011

As if things weren't gloomy enough in North London as it is, Arsenal have decided to shelve their annual meeting between fans and manager Arsene Wenger.

The much-maligned Frenchman typically fields questions from the Arsenal faithful, but the miserable start to the campaign has caused the club to change their mind.

This is not a good sign.

Wenger and fans have gone at it before and, according to the Daily Mail (via Mirror Football), the hostility caused the club to change things up only a few years ago:

"

Wenger used to meet fans at the end of each season, but that date was rescheduled at the end of 2008/9, when questioning became so hostile that Arsenal TV cut out some of the fiercer exchanges, says the Daily Mail.

"

The Arsenal fans deserve to be heard, but their chance will have to wait.

It isn't hard to predict what they'll say, though. The worst start in 58 years will certainly bring about a number of angry outbursts and the fans won't be completely out of line, either.

Wenger's indecision this summer caused the Gunners and their fans enough heartache to last a decade.

The boss waited far too long to make decisions, scrambled uncharacteristically on deadline day and has felt the repercussions ever since.

The squad has also been beleaguered with injuries and they have yet to truly gain a foothold in the Premier League table at all.

This latest decision will not sit well with fans. Many have been waiting for a chance—including myself—to ask the long-time boss exactly what his malfunction was this summer.

Arsenal are scared and this latest display of insecurity does not bode well for their outlook this season.

Wenger has tried to maintain a level of confidence throughout this summer's transfer saga, but this decision completely contradicts that.

Things are only going to get worse at the Emirates if this is any indication of things to come.
