Patriots vs. Bills Week 3: 6 Best Bets to Steal the Show on Sunday

Alex HallSep 21, 2011

Who would have guessed it? The Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots game this weekend will feature a battle of unbeaten teams.

Buffalo has put up some impressive numbers to start the season, hanging 79 points combined in the first two weeks of the season, while New England has been putting up its fair share of points as always.

The Sunday showdown in New York should prove to be a back-and-forth game, especially if this list of players get it going.

Stevie Johnson

1 of 6

Two games into the season, and Stevie Johnson has himself two touchdowns on 12 receptions.

The Bills' top wide out has feasted on the AFC West so far, racking up a 16.5 yards-per-catch average against the Kansas City Chiefs and 12 against the Oakland Raiders last weekend.

The Patriots may be 2-0, but their pass defense has been suspect at best, giving up 416 yards to Chad Henne and 358 yards to Philip Rivers.

Johnson has had a nose for the end zone so far this season and he's been a headache for defensive coordinators to cover. Buffalo will hope his early success carries over into this divisional game.

Rob Gronkowski

2 of 6

With Aaron Hernandez likely sidelined this week, Tom Brady will be looking for Rob Gronkowski plenty more in his absence.

Even with the amount that Brady spreads the ball around in the passing game, Gronk has posted back-to-back 86-yard performances with three touchdowns on the year.

Hernandez will be missed for sure, but the other tight end on the Patriots' roster is more than capable of making big plays for his team and sure knows how to find the pylons.

Fred Jackson

3 of 6

Part of the surprising success coming out of Buffalo is due to stellar play from its lead running back, Fred Jackson.

F-Jax has been doing his best Thurman Thomas impression in the opening two games, posting back-to-back games of 100-plus yards on the ground, along with 28 receiving yards. Jackson has also recorded five total touchdowns so far.

The rushing defense has been slightly better for the Pats, though it wouldn't be overly surprising to see Jackson burn them in the receiving game in the same way Ryan Mathews and Reggie Bush have.

Despite denying both aforementioned backs 100 yards on the ground, both were able to post a fair amount of total yards on the New England defense.

Deion Branch

4 of 6

With all the hype surrounding Chad Ochocinco's arrival to New England this past offseason, many may have forgotten about the chemistry between Deion Branch and Tom Brady.

Branch has 15 receptions through two games. Fifteen. He has yet to find the end zone for the Pats this season, but he's more than made up for it with his 222 receiving yards.

Ochocinco is still going to draw double coverage on occasion, and with Gronkowski and Wes Welker for the Bills to worry about, Branch may find himself in some good cover matchups and put up big numbers.

Ryan Fitzpatrick

5 of 6

If anybody told you Ryan Fitzpatrick would have seven touchdowns through two games with a 109 passer rating, seek that person out for football advice as much as possible.

Fitzpatrick has played two of the best games of his career to start the 2011 season with just one interception and posting a completion percentage of over 60.

History would have you believe the Bills quarterback's hot streak has to end at some point, but we've seen seemingly mediocre athletes come out of nowhere and become dominant.

It's still too early to put Fitzpatrick in that class of athletes, but if his success continues and he's able to carve up the Patriots' pass defense, his team could be 3-0 by the end of Sunday.

Tom Brady

6 of 6

What's there really to say here? He's Tom freakin' Brady.

Brady has added even more records to his illustrious career this season, building up his case to become the best quarterback to ever take an NFL field.

No. 12 has also posted seven touchdowns and just one interception like his Buffalo counterpart, but has almost doubled Fitzpatrick's yards through the air.

Brady has looked zeroed-in and focused so far, giving the Miami Dolphins and San Diego Chargers' pass defense fits.

If New England's "Tom Terrific" can post numbers similar to his first two games this season, Buffalo will find itself in need of turning this game into a shootout.
