WWE Monday Night Raw SuperShow Recap: 5 Best Moments of the Night
The WWE Monday Night Raw SuperShow was in full effect last night, and Bleacher Report is here to break down the five best moments from the show.
Tonight marked the aftermath of Sunday Night's WWE pay-per-view, Night of Champions, which wasn't short on controversy.
After Mark Henry defeated WWE World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton, John Cena went on to defeat the WWE Champion, Alberto Del Rio. With two new champions crowned, the stage was set for Triple H and CM Punk to settle their feud.
The no disqualifications match turned into a war, where The Miz and R-Truth ran in; followed by John Laurinaitis; followed by Kevin Nash. Sure, it was overbooked, but the match itself was actually quite good.
Not only did WWE COO attempt to sort out some of the mess that went down last night, actor Hugh Jackman was in attendance as the special guest on Raw.
The "key moment" of Monday night came at the end, when Triple H made a brash, unexpected move in firing two WWE superstars...but how does that moment stack up against the rest of the show? Check out the following slides to find out!
Jack Swagger Officially Joins Vickie Guerrero's Roster
1 of 5The teased partnership between Jack Swagger and Vickie Guerrero the WWE has teased for weeks has finally arrived.
After Dolph Ziggler lost his match, Vickie was backstage getting a good look at a Jack Swagger video segment that was aired. Swagger approached her, and asked to seal the deal.
Swagger noted that his video package was better than anything Dolph Ziggler did that night, and judging from how quick she was to agree to bring him on her team, I'd say she agreed.
With a kiss of the hand, Swagger signed on, and as he left, gave United States Champion Dolph Ziggler an All-American smirk.
Mark Henry Cuts a Monstrous Promo and Inducts Jerry Lawler into the Hall of Pain
2 of 5Jim Ross had the (dis)pleasure of being the first man to interview the newly-crowned WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Mark Henry.
Henry took the mic and blasted all the naysayers and haters, including JR personally, noting how he urged Vince McMahon to fire him.
Things quickly got physical after Henry ordered JR to apologize to him on behalf of all the haters. JR was quick to oblige, but Henry just grunted that he hated a-- kissers.
He choked JR with his tie, but Jerry Lawler ran in and made the save, talking Henry into letting JR go. But Lawler didn't expect to be replacing JR as the target of The Worlds Strongest Man's rage.
Before Henry could get his hands on Lawler, The King fired off a few punches before being headbutted to the ground and getting hit with the Worlds Strongest Slam.
That wasn't enough though —Henry proceeded to put Lawler through an announcers table with another slam.
Lawler suffered legitimate injuries during the segment, JR tweeted post-show.
An Eight-Man Tag Team Match Kills Two Birds with One Stone
3 of 5I'm a big fan of those rare times when WWE Creative is able to hit multiple angles in one segment.
With the WWE Raw SuperShow being stacked with talent from both the Raw and SmackDown brands, it's a great way to make sure that running angles at least get some attention.
In the opening match of the night, a face vs. heel eight-man tag team match did just that.
Tag team champions Air Boom got to mix it up with the former champions David Otunga and Michael McGillicutty, while greater focus was cast on Sheamus' growing feud with Christian.
To top it off, the match was fun and drew a great reaction from the crowd; plus Justin Gabriel and Wade Barrett got to tag along. Not too shabby!
Hugh Jackman Actually Makes for a Fun Raw Guest
4 of 5I wasn't all to thrilled that the "Raw guest host" gimmick was making a comeback, but with Hugh Jackman appearing to promote his upcoming film Real Steel, I learned that it doesn't have to be so bad.
Well, you know, until the Muppets come on Raw for Halloween.
Dolph Ziggler and Vickie Guerrero came out as Jackman was working the crowd, and coming across as incredibly enthusiastic.
Ziggler challenged Jackman to bring an underdog to face him, in order to show him that underdogs are for movies. The crowd instantly started up a chant in favor of Zack Ryder, and that's exactly who he picked.
The match with Ryder and Ziggler was quick and painless —well, for everyone but Dolph Ziggler. With the referee distracted from throwing Vickie Guerrero out from the ringside area, Jackman punched out Ziggler, allowing Ryder to hit the Rough Ryder for the pin.
The crowd loved Ryder, and it's looking like it might be time for Ryder to become a mid-card regular.
Awesome Truth Gets Beat Down, Then Fired to Close the Show
5 of 5The opening segment of the show set up this top moment of the night, with Triple H telling the WWE Universe that he was getting to the bottom of the "conspiracy" and would fire someone by the end of the night.
The Miz and R-Truth apologized to Triple H for their actions at Night of Champions, were fined, and then given a match against CM Punk and John Cena. All water (and bags of money) under the bridge, right?
Wrong!
They went on to have a decent tag team match main event where it was CM Punk receiving the hot tag and destroying the competition rather than John Cena, which was a bit of a surprise.
Triple H cut the celebration short, and congratulated Punk (but not Cena?) on a great match, then told The Miz and R-Truth they were fired.
Triple H left, and Awesome Truth looked shell shocked. After they realized they were really fired, they ran to the backstage area and attacked Triple H.
The scrap was broken up by the locker room and Triple H ordered the two to be thrown out of the arena, thus ending Raw.
Any thoughts on where this angle is going? How about the other moments of the night? Sound off in the comment section!
