Tony Romo Injury: 3 Fantasy Football Insurance Policies for Banged Up Cowboys QB
Tony Romo is expected to have two cracked ribs in a CT scan scheduled for Monday, according to Matt Mosley of Fox Sports. However, Mosley also tweeted that he expects the Dallas Cowboys quarterback to play through the injury, unless the ailment is more serious than expected.
Romo will probably be listed as questionable on the final injury report, which puts fantasy football owners in tough spot. With that in mind, here are three insurance policies for the Dallas QB owned in less than 10 percent of ESPN leagues.
Matt Hasselbeck – Tennessee Titans

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Hasselbeck threw for 358 yards against a Baltimore Ravens defense that held the Pittsburgh Steelers to seven points just one week earlier. The ineffectiveness of Chris Johnson in the running game has made the former Seattle Seahawks quarterback a useful fantasy commodity.
Kenny Britt continues to emerge as a true No. 1 receiver, which is always something you want for a backup fantasy QB. It's the strong play of Nate Washington that has really taken Hasselbeck's value to a higher level, though.
Hasselbeck and the Titans take on a Denver Broncos squad that allowed rookie Andy Dalton (more on him later) to throw for 332 yards and two touchdowns in Week 2. If Champ Bailey misses another week with a nagging hamstring injury, Hasselbeck should have a field day.
Alex Smith – San Francisco 49ers
Smith has steadily improved during his six seasons as a 49er since being drafted with the top pick in 2005. While the fans would have liked the progression to have happened quicker, they might have finally found their franchise quarterback.
Before getting to far ahead of ourselves, it's important to remember Smith has had great stints in the past. He needs to maintain his current level over a longer period before the skeptics sign off on him. The Utah product has completed 71 percent of his throws so far and threw two touchdowns against Dallas.
The 49ers rely heavily on Frank Gore and the running game, which opens up the play-action pass. Smith is never going to put up the eye-popping numbers of the elite quarterbacks, but he'll be a solid short-term option for desperate Romo owners.
Andy Dalton – Cincinnati Bengals
Dalton was able to shake off a wrist injury to throw over 322 yards and two touchdowns against the Broncos on Sunday. After playing it safe against the Browns, Dalton took some chances in Week 2 and it paid off.
The quick learning curve of A.J. Green, who had 10 grabs for 124 yards and a touchdown against Denver, will only help Dalton further improve his fantasy value. Better utilization of tight end Jermaine Gresham will be the key once teams start doubling Green.
Cincinnati takes on San Francisco in Week 3. The 49ers are allowing nearing 300 yards per game through the air and have given up five passing TDs in two weeks. Rookie quarterbacks are prone to roller coaster results, but start Dalton with confidence next week.
