Penn State University: What SHOULD Happen to the School and Jerry Sandusky
"In retrospect, I, you know, shouldn't have showered with those kids."
"We were showering....and horsing around."
"I enjoy young people. I love to be around them. But, no, I'm not sexually attracted to young boys."
The above three quotes were spoken by former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky on a Monday evening interview on the NBC show Rock Center with Bob Costas.
Unless you're the one percent of one percent who feel that OJ Simpson didn't kill his ex-wife and Ron Goldman back in 1994 or you're someone who still believes in the tooth fairy, you're probably thinking that Jerry Sandusky is more than guilty of the crimes he's been accused of.
While being guilty in the court of public opinion is one thing, being tried and convicted in a court of law is a way different ballgame. Now I'm no lawyer, but why would Joe Amendola, attorney for Sandusky, even allow him to go on television and have anything he say possibly be used against him at a later date.
The only logical explanation I can come up with is that they will eventually go with an insanity defense. I think it is going to be very difficult to find an impartial jury anywhere in the state of Pennsylvania and even more difficult to prove this guy's innocence even if half of the allegations are true! Last night, former GOP Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin said Sandusky should "hang from the highest tree" if he's guilty and she'd even provide the rope!
What "normal" man showers with young boys? What type of guy has sleepovers in his basement and lays down with these adolescents?
Other than Casey Anthony, never to be confused for Mother of the Year, who is a more hated individual?
The defense will say that even when there were rumblings and allegations of inappropriate behavior as far back as 1998, that Sandusky was either too sick or too insane to seek help or immediately cease any contact with these kids.
Imagine the gall and arrogance of Joe Paterno. There is no doubt that this man had to know what was going on. Joe Paterno may only be the head football coach, but he is a god in State College, PA and runs the school. So when he announced his "retirement" last week effective at the conclusion of the football season, it was with a little bit of enjoyment as I watched the State Board say that Joe must go immediately and not on his own terms.
As far as Penn State University goes, the football program should be shut down immediately. I am not for punishing the crop of players who had nothing to do with this, which is why I would allow them to transfer to another school without the usual NCAA penalty of sitting out one year.
Let's face it. College football is big business. Penn State is probably going to a major bowl game this year, which means big bucks for the school. Hitting them in the wallet will not change the past but will definitely make an impact where it counts most!
