Manchester United News: Red Devils GK Tomasz Kuszczak Should Keep Mouth Shut

Tim DanielsSep 14, 2011

Manchester United is off to a terrific start to the season. The last thing they needed was reserve goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak making negative comments about the club not finding a destination for him at the transfer deadline.

Kuszczak was the focus of several rumors as the summer window neared a conclusion, but once the dust settled he was still a member of the Red Devils. After two weeks of silence, he spoke out against the way the storied club handled the situation.

As you might have guessed, he wasn't to happy about it (via ESPNsoccernet).

However, despite expressing his desire to move on, the Poland international remains at Old Trafford and has revealed that he is not happy with the way the situation played out.

"I am angry and disappointed with the way I am treated," said Kuszczak in The Sun. "I had a few good offers. The problem was the club who wanted to sell me for £4 million."

"

What Kuszczak should know is that, although a player's wishes are considered, the team has to make the best decision for themselves in the long run. Manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been at the transfer game long enough to know how he wants to work it.

If the veteran boss wanted £4 million, he's going to have to get it or something pretty close to move an asset, even if a lower offer would be better for the respective player.

More disappointing though is Kuszczak's decision to make these comments during Manchester United's hot start. Being disgruntled is understandable, but other teams around the world that were considering a move for the keeper now see he might have a “me-first” tendency.

Kuszczak would have been better served handling the situation like Dimitar Berbatov.

The veteran striker has fallen deep on the depth chart at Old Trafford, but instead of making it a public issue, he has said all the right things to the media. He knows that he can't burn any bridges because you never know how things will play out.

Like Berbatov, Kuszczak will be able to walk away from the club in 2012 if no extension is agreed to. So while he may feel his peak seasons are being wasted on the bench, expressing thoughts he had to know would be run with by the media wasn't the smartest decision he's made.

The Red Devils are a resilient bunch and it will take more than a frustrated third-choice keeper to knock them off their game. But now Ferguson will have to answer questions about the situation, a bothersome task if there ever was one.

At the end of the day, Kuszczak should have just sucked it up and kept his mouth shut.
