AC Milan News: Banged Up Rossoneri Considering Mega Swap for Fernando Torres?

Wes ODonnellJun 7, 2018

The Rossoneri landed a surprising, but uplifting draw with Barcelona in the their UEFA Champions League group match yesterday.

The Italian giants went into the matchup down a number of players and many expected to see the holding Catalans walk away with an opening match win.

An early goal from Alexandre Pato put Milan up first, but Messi went Messi on the Rossoneri defense and left a beautiful ball across the keeper for Pedro to finish off and tie the game.

David Silva, starting for the injured Alexis Sanchez, netted a free kick and it looked as if Barca would escape with a home win after conceding the early goal.

But they were denied the victory when Thiago Silva's header found the back of the net in stoppage time.

The draw is especially impressive because Massimiliano Allegri's side only had two healthy forwards to do it with.

This is a problem they do not want to face in the future.

According to reports in Italy - via TalkSport - the Italian side is in talks with English club Chelsea for Spanish forward Fernando Torres:

"

Chelsea and AC Milan are planning a stunning January swap deal involving misfiring forward Fernando Torres, according to reports in Italy ... And now, according to the Silvio Berlusconi owned television station Sportmediaset, Torres could be on his way to AC Milan in a swap deal for Manchester City flop Robinho.

"

Like most transfer talk that begins in September but cannot factor in until January, this has to be taken with a cautious advance.

But the Blues are becoming steadily impatient with the supremely-paid goal scorer because he is not scoring goals. He's netted just one goal since joining the West London outfit, and although he got on the sheet with two assists in Chelsea's debut yesterday, the club has a number of other strikers they trust more than him.

New boss Andre Villas-Boas has no direct tie to Torres, and the only thing truly protecting him—or at least giving him chances—is Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich's desire to get him on the pitch.

The Blues are running out of patience though, and the Rossoneri, who entered their Champions League matchup without Robinho, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Pippo Inzaghi as options, cannot afford to be short-handed in future Champions League matches.

Long story short, the Blues have too many forwards and the Rossoneri do not have enough.

Both have aspirations of going deep into Champions League play and a deal for the uber-expensive Torres is not out of line or unthinkable.

Should he prove to be expendable in West London expect to see him moved in the January transfer window.
