View from Kingsmeadow, Volume 51: Dons Misfire Against Aldershot
For Terry Brown's AFC Wimbledon, as well as assistant manager Simon Bassey, it was a stroll down memory lane for the Dons manager as they took on his former club, Aldershot Town, in Football League Two action.
The Dons entered the match with a humble 3-1-2 record (10 points) and sat comfortably in the middle of the table in seventh place. Aldershot, meanwhile, had a record of 2-1-3 (seven points) and was 17 heading into Saturday's tie at the Recreation Ground.
"Having looked at Aldershot's recent form—unbeaten in four, including a fine Carling Cup win against West Ham—I don't think there is any doubt that there will be much to choose between the sides on Saturday," Brown said on Friday.

The Dons manager noted that there were some injuries that needed sorted out.
"We have one or two injury doubts re the side for Saturday, with question marks concerning Brett Johnson, Jack Midson and Charles Ademeno. I am hopeful of being able to bring in a loan centre half to cover any problems with reference to Brett and, of course, Mat Mitchel-King," Brown remarked.
Last season, Aldershot experienced a managerial change. They fired Kevin Dillon as manager of the club on Jan. 10 and was replaced by current manager Dean Holdsworth the following day.
Holdsworth, a former standout for the old incarnation of AFC Wimbledon from 1992-1997, led the Shots to a 14th place finish and a 14-10-19 record (61 points). Aldershot are led by midfielder Luke Guttridge, who led the team in goals scored last season with eight.
In the 18th minute, Wimbledon ran off to a surprise 1-0 lead over Aldershot thanks to Max Porter.
However, in the last minute of stoppage time, Danny Hilton spared shots blushes with an equalizer that made Seb Brown look like an overpaid amateur. (Well, he is in a way...)
The final result: 1-1. To add insult to choke, Ricky Wellard was sent off and will be suspended a few matches.
If AFC Wimbledon really think they can be a factor this season in the Football League Two, they have another thing coming.
Why? Up next are a couple of big matches for Wimbledon at home.
On Tuesday, Sept. 13, they take on Northampton Town at Kingsmeadow. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:45 a.m. PT/2:45 p.m. ET.
On Saturday, Sept. 17, the Dons take on Cheltenham Town. Kickoff at Kingsmeadow is scheduled for 7 a.m. PT/10 a.m. ET.
