Neither of these teams have lost a match in their first three games of the season. Both have looked solid on the defensive end, and have been reluctant to give up many goals.
It will be interesting to see what gives in this match.
Key Player to Watch for Liverpool: Andy Carroll
Carroll has 11 shots on goal this year, but has yet to breakthrough with a goal. He is the constant goat for this team, often the recipient of shots from the media, as well as plenty of fans.
He is extremely talented and is bound to breakthrough with a goal eventually. This could be his time to shine.
Key Player to Watch for Stoke City: Kenwyne Jones
Kenwyne Jones has been the lone bright spot of Stoke's attack this year. He has the lone goal for the team and leads the team in shots.
He needs to play better though, as he is only averaging two shots on target per game.
If he can pick it up in this match, Stoke may have a shot at knocking off Liverpool.
Key Matchup: Luis Suarez vs. Stoke Defense
Something has to give in this match. Stoke has given up just two goals this season, while Suarez has scored two goals already on the season.
Suarez is one of the best goalscorers in the Premier League and will take advantage of any space the defense gives him.
If Stoke doesn't lock him down it could be a long day.
What They're Saying:
Liverpool acquired Craig Bellamy just before the transfer deadline. Bellamy played for Liverpool way back in 2007 and is now returning to the club. Here is what Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli had to say about the move, according to ESPN:
"Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli was delighted to welcome Bellamy back to the club, saying: "What we really liked is the fact he is so versatile. He can play wide, he can play up front, he can play off the target man, so he is an ideal complement to the squad we have built during the summer.
"
For Stoke, the talk of the town has been the acquisitions of Peter Crouch and Wilson Palacios. Here is what Stoke Chairman Peter Coates had to say to ESPN about the transfers:
"The football club cannot do these things alone. It relies on us to put money in to make it happen,'' said the chairman, whose family owns an on-line gambling company.
I'm not sure I want to see it (spending £20 million in one go) often either. It isn't our wish that this should continue. We want to progress the club, of course, but we also want it to play at the highest level and be self-sufficient at the same time.
That is the long-term objective and we are working towards that. But it is a balancing act all of the time because you get extra income from doing better as a club.
"
Final Score:
Stoke City 1
Liverpool 1
