In terms of the big deals, Mikel Arteta's move from Everton to Arsenal attracted as much attention as any. Here's James Dudko with five reasons Arteta could be Arsene Wenger's savior at The Emirates

The Gunners also signed defenders Per Mertsesacker and Andres Santos yesterday, along with Chelsea's Yossi Benayoun (loan). A deal for striker Park Chu-Young was already done and dusted. Tim Daniels asks whether the incoming talent can bring Arsenal their first major trophy in six years.

Meanwhile, North London rivals Tottenham sealed a deadline day deal for West Ham and England midfielder Scott Parker. They'd already added Brad Friedel and Emmanuel Adebayor. Sean Babcock grades Harry Redknapp's activity in the window. Tony Mabert wonders if Spurs are better or worse off.

Redknapp didn't manage to get Bolton defender Gary Cahill, but he did hold on to Luka Modric—in the face of a rumored £40 million bid from Chelsea no less. Wesley Lewis wonders if they should have cut their losses and let the Croatian midfielder leave. James Walker agrees.

Speaking of Chelsea, Andre Villas-Boas' big move on deadline day was a late swoop for Liverpool's Raul Meireles. Jack Alexandros picks a first-choice XI to include the midfielder.

Liverpool's coup of the day was the signing of Manchester City striker Craig Bellamy. Kenny Dalglish has had a busy summer in the transfer market. Here's B/R's Neri Stein to rank their business dealings in the window.

Bellamy's arrival was made relevant in the wake of Joe Cole's departure for Lille. Thomas Atzenhoffer is convinced Dalglish should have fought to hold on to the former England midfielder.

As for Manchester United, there were a predictable flurry of Wesley Sneijder rumors, but to no avail. That said, Adrian Agius reports on a deal that was closer than most people thought.

Meanwhile, United's neighbors City rescued the career of former Red Owen Hargreaves. Andrew Jordan thinks it's a shrewd move from the would-be challengers to United's throne.

Over in Spain, there wasn't much to report yesterday. Based on signings already completed, Manuel Traquete believes Barcelona are even stronger this year. Andres Ehrli has ranked Pep Guardiola's dealings this window.
