Arsenal FC: 5 Players to Watch Out for in Their UEFA Champions League Group

Rohan SubraSep 5, 2011

The UEFA Champions League draw has been decided, and it's thrown up a variety of different scenarios for all involved.

Manchester City are said to have a difficult group, while Manchester United supposedly have an easy one.

Real Madrid and Barcelona are both said to have tough groups, while Porto's should be a breeze for them.

There are mixed feelings for all the major teams.

As for Arsenal, they have be drawn along with Marseille (France), Olympiacos (Greece) and Borussia Dortmund (Germany).

Here are five players Arsenal will have to watch out for.

Mario Gotze

1 of 5

Team: Borussia Dortmund

Nationality: German

Despite the fact that Mario Gotze is just 19-years-old, he is a huge threat for the opposing defense. He is expected to develop into a great player in a few years, given that he is already fast and shows signs of great technical ability.

Gotze started his senior career in 2009, after playing for the youth academies of Ronsberg, Eintracht Hombruch and Borussia Dortmund.

He also broke into the senior German international team, after playing for the U15, U16, U17 and U21 squads. Though he did not travel with Germany to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, he is almost assured to have a great international career.

He has a great right foot, and can hurt teams with his powerful and accurate shots, which he can strike from distance.

Arsenal better look out for this German teenager.

Loic Remy

2 of 5

Team: Marseille

Nationality: French

Remy can play as a lone striker but often he has others supporting him, and when teammates help him he can be extremely dangerous.

The Frenchman arrived at Marseille last year, after having two years at both Lyon and Nice, as well as a loan spell with Lens.

Though Remy did break into the senior French team in 2009, he did not travel with Raymond Domenech's side to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Remy has scored 17 goals in 33 appearances for Marseille, and is proving to fit in well with the team.

Arsenal better watch this man.

Marko Pantelic

3 of 5

Team: Olympiakos

Nationality: Serbian

Marko Pantelic has played for a ridiculous amount of teams—Iraklis, Paris Saint-Germain, Lausanne, Celta Vigo, Sturm Graz, Yverdon-Sport, Obilic, Sartid Smederevo, Red Star Belgrade, Hertha BSC, Ajax and Olympiakos.

The Serbian is a world-class finisher, and he knows exactly where to be so that he can put the ball into the net.

Pantelic did travel with Serbia to last year's World Cup, where scored a goal against Australia in the group stages. However, his country failed to qualify for the knockout stages, with Germany and Ghana finishing ahead of them.

Arsenal should always have one eye on this player, because he can really be dangerous if he is left unmarked.

Lucas Barrios

4 of 5

Team: Borussia Dortmund

Nationality: Paraguayan

Lucas Barrios is one of the best players in the Bundesliga, as he is very effective from inside the 18-yard box.

Borussia Dortmund is the first major team that he played for, and he played a major role as they won the Bundesliga title last season. He scored 16 goals throughout the season, and in his whole Dortmund career he has scored 35 goals in 65 appearances.

Barrios was a consistent substitute for Paraguay in the World Cup, despite the fact that he didn't score during the tournament.

Last year, he was named Paraguayan footballer of the year.

Thomas Vermaelen would be a good player to mark him.

Mathieu Valbuena

5 of 5

Team: Marseille

Nationality: French

Though Mathieu Valbuena is only 5'6", he is a world-class creative midfielder; something which he has proved for Marseille.

He has played there since 2006, and in 142 appearances has recorded a ton of assists ( though he has only scored 18 goals in those games).

Though Valbuena was chosen by Raymond Domenech in his 23-man squad for the World Cup, he did not play at all which was a huge disspointment, especially as France were embarrassed.

At 26-years-old, Mathieu Valbuena is at his peak, and if Arsenal don't watch out, he could rip them apart with his great skills.
