NFL Week 11 Picks: Cowboys-Redskins Rivalry Is Game of The Week

Mark JonesNov 14, 2008

Mark Jones's NFL Week 11 Picks

Last week I had a spectacular 11-2 record, plus my Upset of the Week (Colts over Steelers) and Lock of the Week (Panthers over Raiders) were also both correct. That puts me at 64-36 (.640%) for the year and 31-10 (.756%) in the last three weeks.

Hopefully my hot streak will continue this week and I can put up double-digit wins for the fourth time in a row!

NFL Week 11 Picks (Sunday-Monday)

Denver (5-4) @ Atlanta (6-3)

The Falcons are obviously the Cinderella team of the year, and Denver only has a winning record because of their terrible division and Ed Hochuli. Look for the Broncos to put up a lot of points on the board but fall just short to Matt Ryan and his Falcons.

Pick: Falcons, 35-27

Detroit (0-9) @ Carolina (7-2)

I seriously doubt the worst team in the NFL can do anything against 7-2 Carolina. The Panthers' run game really opened up last week against the Raiders, and the Lions don't exactly have a stone wall defense.

Pick: Panthers, 27-6

Philadelphia (5-4) @ Cincinnati (1-8)

This game is already finished. The Bengals might have picked up their first win of the year last game, and they're also coming off a late bye week—but the Eagles are much better than their 5-4 record shows, and they put up a good effort in their 36-31 loss to the NFC-leading NY Giants.

Pick: Eagles, 28-13

New Orleans (4-5) @ Kansas City (1-8)

The Chiefs put up a valiant effort last week in their 20-19 loss to San Diego, and it would have gone to overtime if Kansas City didn't try to win it in regulation by going for two. But I don't think they can match last week's performance now vs. the Saints, even if New Orleans has been a bit of a disappointment this season.

Pick: Saints, 31-14

Baltimore (6-3) @ New York Giants (8-1)

The Ravens are looking very good so far, and much better than expected. They could make this game much closer than it seems. But Eli Manning and his offense will be able to find some holes in Baltimore's usually rock-solid secondary now that the Ravens defense has gotten themselves into some injury trouble.

Pick: Giants, 24-17

Minnesota (5-4) @ Tampa Bay (6-3)

The Vikings are re-energized after their sneaky 28-27 victory over the Packers last week as they head to Florida for another tough game. After the game last week, the Minnesota television commentator recapped the game perfectly; "Vikings fans, congratulate your team now, because they scratched and clawed and fought for this victory." We'll see if they can bring that philosophy to this game, another huge matchup for their playoff hopes.

Pick: Vikings fall just short, and the Bucs win, 28-24

Oakland (2-7) @ Miami (5-4)

The Raiders actually played great defense in their 17-6 loss last week to Carolina, and they got four picks out of Jake Delhomme. Miami is certainly playing better than expected, but I think they're actually a bit overrated. This should be a much closer game than most think.

Pick: Raiders win in my Upset of the Week, 17-14, in overtime

Chicago (5-4) @ Green Bay (4-5)

In a game that will either completely even out the NFC North race or eliminate the Packers from contention, the Bears will march into Lambeau without starting quarterback Kyle Orton.

Instead, old Rex "oh, no!" Grossman will be their top QB. That is not a good sign, especially in this key division game, but I think the 'da Bears can still pull through.

Pick: Chicago, 23-21

Houston (3-6) @ Indianapolis (5-4)

The Colts are playing the best they have all season, and nearly as good as the last few years. After major victories over rival New England and Pittsburgh, this is like a week off to them.

The first time these division rivals played, the Texans had it all wrapped up and then just came out and completely game the game to Indy. This time, I don't expect them to even have the chance to "give the game away".

Pick: Colts roll, 28-13

St. Louis (2-7) @ San Francisco (2-7)

Oh, man, it's the Game of the Year!!! Actually, we'll be lucky if either one tries. Heck, if they lose, at least they'll get a higher draft pick!

Pick: I don't think anyone cares, but I'll say 49ers, 17-13

Arizona (6-3) @ Seattle (2-7)

If you can believe it, the Cardinals may really be overrated. They barely survived San Francisco last week. Seattle has also showed some spark, and they almost sent the Dolphins to overtime last Sunday. This could be a close game, though not really a meaningful one.

Pick: Cards hang on, 31-24

Tennessee (9-0) @ Jacksonville (4-5)

Last time they played was Week One, and when the Titans won 13-10, that was considered a huge upset. Not anymore, it won't be. The Jaguars just haven't impressed me at all, though they had fire last week.

Pick: Titans, 24-14

San Diego (4-5) @ Pittsburgh (6-3)

A Pittsburgh loss and Baltimore upset launches the Ravens into first place, and the Steelers seem to be in a bit of a slump. Plus, you can't count the Chargers out yet, because the 'Bolts still do have talent all through their roster.

Pick: Steelers barely pull by, 24-21 in overtime

Dallas (5-4) @ Washington (6-3)

This should be a heated game and a close one, too. With the Cowboys getting back several players, including Romo, and the Redskins coming off a bye, this game is going to be back-and-forth for all four quarters.

This will be a mad grudge match, and that might be an understatement. But with Romo, I think Dallas can pull through

Pick: Dallas in OT, 27-24

Cleveland (3-6) @ Buffalo (5-4)      **MNF**

An improvement from the last Monday Night game, but not by much. The Bills last hope is the wild card, and this win will help their chances. The Browns last hope is....well, gone! Only the Ravens and Steelers stand a chance in that AFC North.

Pick: Bills get back on track, 21-14

Upset of the Week: Oakland OVER Miami

Lock of the Week: Philadelphia OVER Cincinnati (Yeah, I know, everyone is saying, "Did you forget Carolina-Detroit?" I didn't.)
