Cutler Gives Broncos Reason to Smile: Denver Beats Cleveland 34-30

Sayre BedingerNov 6, 2008

The Denver Broncos were up to their old tricks in Cleveland on Thursday night, and they stole the show from the Browns and quarterback Brady Quinn.

Rookie running back Ryan Torain was impressive in his first start as a Bronco, rushing for 68 yards on 12 carries.  Torain also vaulted himself into the end zone from one yard out to provide the game's first touchdown.

Cleveland, who at one point led 23-10, blew their second straight 13+ point lead in the second half.  Brady Quinn was very impressive in his first start, and connected on 23-of-35 passes for 239 yards and two touchdowns, both to star tight end Kellen Winslow.

The real story for tonights game was Denver quarterback Jay Cutler, who seemingly woke up from his four game nap.  Cutler started off really shaky, but finished the game strong by completing 24-of-42 passes for 447 yards and three touchdowns.  He also added 29 yards rushing, most of which came on the final drive of the game on a quarterback draw.

Cutler finally had all of his weapons back, and he made good use of them, completing passes to eight different receivers.  None shined quite like rookie Eddie Royal, who caught six passes for 164 yards. His night was highlighted by a 93 yard bomb that violently shoved the momentum in Denver's favor.

Brandon Marshall quietly had a solid game, ammassing 89 yards and a touchdown on six total catches.

Denver posted an 80-yard, 13 play drive late in the fourth quarter capped off by the aforementioned Brandon Marshall score to win the game.

The Broncos now have ten days to get healthy for the Atlanta Falcons a week from Sunday.
