Miami Hurricanes Football 2011: 7 Games with Blowout Potential (Win or Lose)
The definition of a blowout in college football varies depending on the person.
Personally, I believe when a team beats another team by 24 points and dominates from start to finish, that's considered a blowout.
Over the last three years, the Hurricanes have been a part of seven blowout games, but unfortunately they lost two of them.
This is my list of potential blowouts in 2011, win or lose.
Kansas State Wildcats
1 of 7Date: Sept. 24, 2011
Where: Miami, FL
Reason: The Kansas State Wildcats had a few blowouts of their own last year, including a beatdown of Texas, 39-14. The problem is they lost their best two players, running back Daniel Thomas and quarterback Carson Coffman.
Another problem Kansas State had last year was stopping teams from scoring, as it gave up over 29 points per game, 78th in the country.
With the missing stars and not being able to stop teams from scoring, Miami has the potential to pick apart the Wildcats.
Possible Blowout: Miami, 45-17
Bethune-Cookman Wildcats
2 of 7Date: Oct. 1, 2011
Where: Miami, FL
Reason: Bethune-Cookman was 11-2 last year and ended the season tied for first place in the MEAC conference. That was against FCS competition, but when it comes to Miami, it will be a different world.
That doesn't mean that Miami will automatically demolish it, right Michigan and Virginia Tech?
I do expect a pretty easy game, and I think Miami walks on Bethune-Cookman.
Possible Blowout: Miami, 49-6
Virginia Tech Hokies
3 of 7Date: Oct. 8, 2011
Where: Blacksburg, VA
Reason: The last time these two teams met, Miami lost at home, 31-17. Although Lamar Miller had a breakout game, Miami killed itself with turnovers, committing six of them.
This year Miami has a better team but still the same question at quarterback. If the Hurricanes get it straightened out before this game, there is no chance the Hokies blow out Miami.
If they don't...
Possible Blowout: Virginia Tech, 38-10
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets
4 of 7Date: Oct. 22, 2011
Where: Miami, FL
Reason: Miami generally doesn't do well against Georgia Tech, winning only six of 16 games against it, but Miami has won the last two games by a combined total of 68-27.
Last season Miami won in Georgia, 35-10, as both starting quarterbacks didn't play.
This year, I believe, will be more of the same, as the Yellow Jackets' offensive scheme doesn't bode well against the speedsters at Miami.
Possible Blowout: Miami, 38-14
Virginia Cavaliers
5 of 7Date: Oct. 27, 2011
Where: Miami, FL
Reason: Last year's loss to Virginia was the most embarrassing loss of the year. In fact, Virginia's only ACC win was against the Hurricanes, as the Cavaliers ended the season 1-7 in the ACC.
Keith Payne and the rest of the running backs burned Miami for 185 yards and two touchdowns.
The problem wasn't stopping Virginia; it was Miami's five interceptions that once again killed it.
I truly believe Miami will bounce back and take Virginia out quickly this year.
Possible Blowout: Miami, 38-13
Duke Blue Devils
6 of 7Date: Nov. 5, 2011
Where: Miami, FL
Reason: The Hurricanes beat Duke last year 28-17 in North Carolina.
Miami held the Blue Devils to 292 yards of total offense and created seven turnovers in the win. With that many turnovers, though, Miami should have beaten them by more then 11.
This year the game lands on homecoming, and I believe Miami will put on a show for the fans and take down the much-improved Blue Devils by 27 points.
Possible Blowout: Miami, 34-7
Florida State Seminoles
7 of 7Date: Nov. 12, 2011
Where: Tallahassee, FL
Reason: This is the main test of the season for the Hurricanes and possibly the toughest opponent they will play all year.
It also just happens to be the last team that Miami got blown out by, 45-17, at home.
This year, Florida State is supposed to be even better, as it is picked as the ACC favorite in most publications.
Miami, on the other hand, is really a question mark right now. New coaches, question mark at quarterback still and issues at cornerback are making it hard to know what team will show up.
If it's the one from last year, it will tell me more of the same.
Possible Blowout: FSU, 40-14
