Anthony Davis Posts Cryptic IG Video Amid Wizards Contract Rumors, LeBron James Links

It's cryptic postseason in the NBA, and Anthony Davis was the latest star to drop a message on Instagram.

The Washington Wizards star posted a black screen with J. Cole's "The Cut Off," amid links to free agent LeBron James.

The post comes after Kevin O'Connor of Yahoo Sports noted a "popular theory" around the NBA about James "slow-playing" his free agency decision in hopes of one of his top teams landing either Davis or Kyrie Irving.

ESPN's Shams Charania disputed that theory, though.

"My sources tell me that LeBron James, his agent Rich Paul, that inner circle, they're not waiting for another domino right now," Charania said on the Pat McAfee Show. "They're not waiting for Anthony Davis to get traded anywhere. They're not waiting for anyone else to move around anywhere."

The idea of James and Davis reuniting was a popular theory early on in James' free agency, with Golden State being the potential landing spot for the two stars. That theory was quickly shut down, as the Wizards reportedly had no interest in trading Davis.

James and Davis teaming up again would be an exciting way for James to end his career, but it seems there isn't much of a chance of it happening, barring the four-time MVP joining the Wizards, who are not among his reported top teams.

For now, it seems Davis is going to stay in Washington, but whether it's a long-term fit remains to be seen. Davis is under contract this season and has a player option in 2027-28. The Wizards reportedly plan to hold contract talks with Davis when he becomes extension-eligible on Aug. 6.

While Washington perhaps isn't where Davis envisioned himself, he could be a key member of an up-and-coming team. The Wizards have had a rough few years, but a trio of Davis, Trae Young and No. 1 overall pick AJ Dybantsa could be a playoff contender as early as this season.
