New Anthony Davis Trade Rumors Update Wizards Star's Availability Amid LeBron James, Warriors Buzz
The Washington Wizards are not interested in trading star forward Anthony Davis and are not entertaining trade offers involving him, according to ESPN's Marc J. Spears.
An NBA team executive told Spears that Wizards general manager Will Dawkins is a "huge fan" of Davis.
"The scenario in which LeBron James and Anthony Davis reunite in San Francisco appears to have died on the vine," The Athletic's Sam Amick added on Tuesday.
"The Warriors are now signaling that Davis isn't in their plans, according to league sources who spoke on condition of anonymity to describe ongoing deliberations. Conversely, the Washington Wizards, the club that employs Davis, is very against the prospect of trading him to the Warriors (or, for now, anywhere), those sources said."
Yahoo Sports' Kevin O'Connor previously reported that the Warriors hoped to reunite Davis and LeBron James this offseason, pairing them alongside Stephen Curry.
A change of scenery for James is on the horizon, as both he and the Los Angeles Lakers confirmed that his eight-year tenure with the organization will be coming to an end.
Davis, who won a championship with James during the 2019-20 season, has yet to suit up for the Wizards since they acquired him in a trade with the Dallas Mavericks on Feb. 4.
His long-term future in Washington was murky after the swap, as NBA insider Chris Haynes hinted that the team could choose to trade him before the start of next season.
As part of Davis' current contract, he'll earn $58.5 million for his 2026-27 campaign before holding a player option worth $62.8 million for the 2027-28 season (via Spotrac).
There was also uncertainty surrounding the 33-year-old's outlook in Washington, given his age and injury history, as he's appeared in just 243 of a possible 410 games over the past five seasons combined.
Still, it seems as though the Wizards will retain Davis as they look to climb up the Eastern Conference standings.
He should provide a boost to Washington's starting lineup on both ends of the court when healthy, as he averaged 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game while shooting 50.6 percent from the field across 20 appearances with the Mavericks last season.
As the Wizards continue to build around AJ Dybantsa and Trae Young moving forward, Davis won't be going anywhere.
