New Anthony Davis Rumors on Wizards Contract Extension Talks After Warriors Trade Buzz

After surprising many outside observers with Trae Young's contract, the Washington Wizards may not be done handing out big-money deals this offseason.

Per Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Wizards are planning to hold contract talks with Anthony Davis when he becomes extension-eligible on Aug. 6.

Scotto added Wizards officials have "rebuffed" any trade inquires for Davis, with the Golden State Warriors at one point being mentioned as a popular destination when they were envisioning a potential big four including Davis, LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.

Even though Davis' name popped up in trade rumors early in the offseason, there seems to be very little enthusiasm from either his camp or the Wizards for a move to happen.

Davis' agent, Rich Paul, was asked during a recent podcast appearance about Davis playing for the Wizards. "Yeah, why wouldn't he?" he replied.

The Wizards' acquisition of Deandre Ayton in a trade with the Los Angeles Lakers led to some talk a Davis deal could follow, but NBA insiders Marc Stein and Jake Fischer reported afterward Washington officials envision the 2026-27 lineup with both big men in it.

It's going to be interesting how aggressive the Wizards want to be with their spending after giving Young a four-year, $212 million deal. Davis is owed $58.5 million next season and holds a $62.8 million player option for 2027-28.

Everything the Wizards do in 2026-27 has to be geared toward maximizing the development of No. 1 pick AJ Dybantsa. They have surrounded him with a strong nucleus of talent, with Young being a very good offensive engine to help the rookie adjust to the NBA.

Davis is hoping for a bounce-back campaign next season after playing just 20 games in 2025-26. He didn't appear in a game for the Wizards after being acquired in a trade with the Dallas Mavericks.

The 33-year-old averaged 20.4 points, 11.1 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game in those 20 appearances with the Mavs.
