College Football 2011: Predicting the Champions of the Big Six Conferences

Connor KillorenJul 6, 2011

With the old Pac-10 having expanded to 12 teams and the Big Ten adding Nebraska, two more conference championship games have emerged.

Fans will now have the pleasure of taking in championship games in the ACC, SEC, Big Ten and Pac-12.

Teams in those conferences will be in a mad dash to claim a spot in the championship game and ultimately a spot in a BCS game.

Who will be this season's conference champions?

Find out as we predict which teams will come out on top in each of the six major conferences.

Big East Conference: West Virginia

1 of 6

The West Virginia Mountaineers should have no trouble running the table this season in the Big East.

There are two potential roadblocks against Pittsburgh on November 25 and at South Florida on December 1.

If the defense can continue to be a solid unit, then the team shouldn't have any trouble claiming the Big East title for the first time since the 2009 season.

Big 12 Conference: Oklahoma

2 of 6

With Colorado and Nebraska having left to join other conferences, the Big 12 has been left with only 10 teams.

The end result of that is the lack of a championship game, making things that much easier for Oklahoma to be crowned champions.ย

The Sooners must come out victorious against Missouri and Texas A&M. Luckily, each of those match-ups are in Norman.

If Bob Stoops' squad wins each of those games, there's no question that Oklahoma will claim the conference title.

Atlantic Coast Conference: Florida State

3 of 6

Jimbo Fisher's Florida State Seminoles have a relatively easy conference schedule this season.

The toughest matchup will be on November 12 at home against the Hurricanes of Miami.

Other than that game, the path is clear for Florida State to advance to the championship game.

ACC Championship Game: Florida State over Virginia Tech.

Big Ten Conference: Nebraska

4 of 6

Nebraska's first season in the Big Ten should be a fruitful one as they are likely to be crowned conference champions.

The Huskers face a daunting conference slate with road games against Wisconsin, Penn State and Michigan.

However, Bo Pelini's squad should be favored in each of those games.

Pac-12 Conference: Oregon

5 of 6

The Oregon Ducks are again the favorites to win the Pac-12 title after playing in last season's national championship game against Auburn.

Darron Thomas and LaMichael James return to lead what should be another high-scoring quack attack.

In November the Ducks face two tough games in a row at Stanford and at home against USC.

Southeastern Conference: Alabama

6 of 6

The Alabama Crimson Tide are favorites yet again to claim the Southeastern Conference Championship.

The defense will be the best in the nation once again and should carry the team into a BCS game.

Games at Arkansas and at LSU loom large on the conference schedule.

SEC Championship Game: Alabama over Georgia
